Not that I drink or eat pork, but I was wondering wh y are they both haraam?

They are banned according to Quran. Part of being muslim is submission and belief in the Unseen. And not questioning whatever is in the Quran.
Though for the curious mind, the reasoning behind alcohol would be to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road so that mine and your family can come home alive tonight and tomorrow and the day after. And pork would be that its an unclean animal.

I think i know wat u r getting at,other than being prohibited by islam ill tell u wat i know.rest u may search .
female pigs have multiple partners and both male and female pigs eat their own excreta.female pig while being mounted shrugs one partner off and goes to another .its in their fitrat/nature therefore eating pork leads to besharmi and uncleanliness.
as for alcohol (besides scientific reasons),in qissa sul anbiya its written (qissa sul anbiya is not an authentic source by some) that wen noahs ark landed on mount ararat he found that the grape vine was missing.and then shaitan comes forward and says that i will return it only on one condition that i will water it 3 times before u do n noah agrees.so satan first 'waters' it with the blood of the fox,then the blood of the lion and lastly the blood of the pig.according to the book thats y wen u drink first ur mind becomes sharp like a fox,then u become brave n courageous like a lion and in the end u start behaving like a pig.u may authenticate this urself brother.
now dont use this simple sharing of material (from qissa sul anbiya) for questions like i eat eggs so do i start crowing like one etc?me thinks i shud prepare meself to be ridiculed.

Didn’t you visit a farm when you were at school?
I still remember when I was in infants and they took us to a farm, out of every stable and barn we visited the pigs smelt and looked the worse, they smelt RANCID, like rotten poo and they looked equally as disgusting, we looked at other animals too and although they did smell of urine and dung it was no where near as strong or repulsive and they all looked relatively clean, even the sheep in the muddy fields.
I’ve smelt roast pork, ham, gammon and bacon being cooked too and trust me it is :yukh:

If you don’t eat pork religious reasons, fine. But please, don’t pretend it’s because it is unhealthy, bad tasting or not the best smelling meat while being cooked.

You’re right. I don’t eat pork or drink alcohol purely for religious reasons. That’s what my religion says and I don’t need any other reasons for avoiding them.

Cynical? I'm not the one who finds a hundred reasons to not do something to justify religious edicts. I am just saying the meat is no worse for you (and sometimes healthier) than other meats and it tastes and smells delicious for those who choose to eat it. I am NOT denying they are filthy animals.

The reason for alcohol is simple. Anything that intoxicates the mind (such as alcohol, and drugs) are forbidden.
As for the pig, it is considered a filthy animal. The food is unhealthy, filled with cholestrol, I think. Also, the way this animal acts in life is also filthy (i.e. its eating habits & lifestyle). Not to mention, this probably is the only animal I know which indulges in polyandry (meaning when one female gets horny, multiple males can come over & give her a banging for reproduction).
By the way, polyandry is also prohibited in Islam.

Wow.... over use of Alcohol is bad and there is NO need to justify that by using religion to add your argument. and,,,,,,, what has a Pig done to you to make you so against Pigs? If a female Pig engages in s*x with multiple male Pigs, does it defy God? wasn't it who created Pigs, or has God lost contorl over Pigs. whatever was done/written/believed by people of Middle east (where temrature tends to hit 50) thousands of years ago can not be applied to the region like northern Europe. How can someone living in Norway be wearing Arab clothes with beard grown down to his chest. Come on wake and realise that we NON Arabs have nothing to do with Arab traditions and siply can not live our lives according to what was written 1500 years ago by Arabs.
