Nice to see the opening problem being addressed here. :D

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

What's Junaid Zia sifaarshi doing among fast bowlers? LOL

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

lets just hope e can fnd a decent opening jori out of this camp

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

Yes true, he is absoultely rubbish and would even struggle to make some county sides.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

Mohammed Aamer and rahatullah from current U19 are included in the camp as well and good thing is that Aamer is just 17 and he is left handed fast bowler, did well against Australia U19. Also good to see Jamshed Ahmed, both of these bowlers alongwith Najaf can learn a lot from left handed legend.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

I am not sure what you are basing your comments on, perhaps the international games he played when his father was heading PCB. In case you guys didn't notice he was top performer in domestic after that stint and has done well afterwards too.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

Wasim in his press meeting after the camp has praised Najaf Shah and said his technique is really good.
InshAllah this is a good sign for Pakistan is we can get a new left armer in the team and if he can learn in/out swing he should be prove valuable.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

Having a left arm bowler adds much needed variety to the bowling attack. The previous attempt in form of Mohammed Khalil wasnt a very successful one. Lets hope that Najaf is hard working person and can establish himself in the team.
On the other hand, Wasim supporting the idea of these coaching camps indicate the fact that he will be more involved with PCB (training etc) in near future, which is great as he has a great eye for talent.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

I am not really sure if that is going to be great for Pakistan as we have been relying on individual talent so far instead of 'grooming and coaching' good bowlers/batsmen/wicket keepers.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

Yes the international game which he played. He didnot look as though he will ever take a wicket.

Also, shows the quality of domestic competition when jokers like him are top performers.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

He has played only 4 ODIs and his best is 3/21 which isn't bad at all.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

3/21 against the might Bangladesh.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

I think the thread is not about Juniad zia but the camp. As far as Junaid Zia goes, he has been performing reasonably well in the domestic circuit and I don't think it a big issue if he is the camp.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

bhai jaan, how many countries did he play against? Unfortunately his career started on disputed grounds (father's influence) that was the only issue. When he was included in the team I was one of those who voiced (or cried on his inclusion :D) but he performed well afterwards and if that earned him a recall then I am totally fine with that. If you want to question our domestic competitions intensity/level then that is separate issue, we had many other players/bowlers who performed well in domestic/A-team but flunked in national colors. What else should be our criteria of making a team?

Anyway, back to the topic, do these short-camps help in conditioning/grooming bowlers? We saw Waqar helping Rana who emerged as the next-best-thing-since-sliced-bread but then he drowned like an amateur swimmer (i.e. Sami).

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

I dont think Junaid Zia deserves to be in the camp, but then again I also dont think Mohammad Hafeez should be playing galli cricket, yet Sallu put him in the national team with an average of 18.05 - so the grandpa-age selectors of ours seem to have different ideas.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

If Junaid Zia is selected onthe basis of doemstic performance, what criteria may have been used to select jokers like Sami??????????

Junaid Zia is another addition to jokers list and to be frank he is not a international class regardless of his performances against the mighty Bangladesh or his domestic performances.

Yes you are right - I am also not sure sure whether these short training camps really benefit the bowlers? Training and coaching the bowlers should be a continous and therefore a qualified bowling coach should be appointed who can be work with them.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

Mohammad Hafeez is a very good all rounder, and a better opener than Nazir and Farhat. He should be persisted with.

Re: Akram to supervise camp for fast bowlers @ NCA from May 16

He was brought in team on domestic performance as well, I believe.

Your judgment of him is based on your observation against BD only when it was too early for him to appear on the scene, you don't know how much he has improved afterwards. Mohammad Asif was picked up from domestic, sent with team to Australia where he didn't fare as well as Mohammad Khalil (statistics wise) and got discarded (many pundits said same about him 'not-international material), later on he improved and we can see that he is improved. So we have to give chance to deserving candidates as well as improve competitiveness of our domestic.

Well, we do agree on some points then :)
