Not a life or death situation but…yeah. 4 people go out to dinner (not that it matters?..but 3 girls and 1 guy, and is background info important here? I don’t think so?)
anyways, so we get the bill. instead of splitting it 4 ways, we each pay for what we ordered. No praaablem right? Except the guy ordered the cheapest thing (nothing wrong with that either), didn’t eat from anyone’s plate, and obviously only wanted to pay his share…the two others want him to pay for the tax AND the tip, which would be triple what he wanted to pay and he wasn’t willing to. The 3 spent a gazillion hours arguing over it.
Anyways, all you experts on life and people…your take on this situation? Were the girls being unreasonable? Should the guy have paid without any argument? Does this have ANYTHING to do iwth gender? (Cz apparently…having a thingamajig means u automatically pay for everything?)
Considering that they’re all pretty young (20-21) it was slightly amusing but annoying as well to watch.

I hate it when girls assume the guy is responsible for paying - why assume he has deeper pockets than they do and unless he said he was treating everyone - he's not responsible for the bill.

Yeah I thought it was pretty nasty of them BUT he was kind of being a d-bag throughout the dinner, sooooooo....maybe background does matter here?
I'm all for chivalry and all that jazz, but the girls here just sound like a bunch of eggheads. Pay for your own dam bill.
Just a note, the girls here deserve to be called something abit worse than eggheads. But just keeping in mind the rules and so on, I'm gonna go with eggheads.
So what if he was being a jerk - that has nothing to do with paying for dinner - separate issues and not to be confused.
Unless someone has invited me out to dinner or offered to pay for my dinner/lunch/coffee, I pay my own way and pay my own share, I do not expect a guy to pay for me.
Even if he had the cheapest dish, the tip should be shared!! He can be an ass and pay for the tax applied to his meal only but they all got equal attention from the server I am assuming so should pay equally for that!
As someone who has actually worked as a waitress.....this is not always true. Obviously I don't know the exact details of what the girls in this situation ordered or how many times the server came to the table specifically for one of the girls versus the guy......but MANY times there are certain people in a table who are more demanding and require extra attention compared to others.
Fine I agree that some customers are finicky but there is nothing wrong with showing a little gratitude.
I absolutely agree with you.
However, in this particular situation, the girls don't have a right to tell the guy how much gratitude he needs to show. The girls need to give the tip they feel is appropriate based on their own bills and the service they received. And the guy should be left alone to decide how much gratitude he will leave based on his personal bill, and the service he received.

You know, in all the years I’ve been oot and aboot in society, that’s never even occurred to me…but then, I’ve never seen ppl arguing over a bill either…lol.
I have no problem paying my own share of the food, or splitting a check, but I also don’t think a split bill is fair in most cases unless it’s with close friends.
You and I may think that they’re two separate issues, but maybe they felt differently. Anyways, I agree with everything you said.

and he was ok with paying the tip, but they wanted to pay him more of a tip than he wanted to (and please let’s not get into discussion about 15% is standard and all…everyone should pay what they’re comfortable with)
Anyways, those criticizing the girls…well I’ve had my own issues with them at work, and this was no different, but I didn’t bring it up for fear of being considered biased…which they accuse me of too btw…but if you guys think they are being unreasonable and “eggheads”…then hmmm..idk.
