Age 22, turning 23

no this is not those bachelors auction, thank you very much.

At age 22,23, pretty soon will be needing the car of my own (again). choices that friends are giving me are:

  1. mazda 3 (reasons, well those who know maz3 will know them)

  2. civic si/siR (KINDA iffy’bout it as its a WELL KNOWN 2 door car, vtec engine and cops look at it with kuttay ki nazar say)

  3. integras (still 2 door, still kuttay wali nazrain:()

  4. sentra type R (dunno who recommended it, drove sentra for 2+ years) but this one they keep saying is TOTALLY different than what i had

  5. chevy z24 (still 2 door, i KINDA Like the shape/engine ratio but insurance would be bummer)

  6. accord like 97 to 2000 (OUT OF EVERYTHING this is so far the best options, pretty good performance, and insurance ratio)

  7. acura 1.6 series, the ones that look like civic from a distance, these ones come in 4 door, and just spotted some nice deals within 9G that had ‘sports package’ applied, vtec dual overhead cam engines, and good choices of cd players..

8.altimas are kinda expensive, so not really thinking’bout them..

MY IMAGE was to have a 4 door sedan type car.. low on gas but a good performance on highways.. and SO far accord EX-R and acura’s 1.6EL ones are the only ones that are able to do that..(yeah i have a thing for VTEC and DOHC combos)

insurance is the only factor in my way .. this morning i took a quote for 2004 mazda m3, both coupe and hatch and it wasnt looking good.. best student car? r u kidding me mazda?

 any views and help would be highly appreciated, budget would be 10,000 (CDN) taxes extra i guess…

You are only 22?

ummm.. ya?

why u thought i was Faisal(USA)'s age? maar doonga qasam say!:hehe:

No, I knew you weren't THAT old. :p

If I were you, I’d stick to a 4 door Honda sedan. You can always make it look more sexier in the long run (tint, rims, lights, sports seats). Can’t modify the engine according to new laws (i know :bummer:).

2 doors usually sky rocket with insurance and when they hear its a student driver, they’ll have a field day with your arse

Get it under your parents name, build a record as a 3rd party driver and then in 3 more years you can get your own insurance.

I’ll ask an acquaintance who works at the Honda Canada dealership who has anything matching your specs and budget.

Btw, are you interested in leasing?

Mehnaz: I see you’re feeling mighty invinsible 6000 miles away from Faisal :hehe:

When and how did I enter in this thread?

faizy bhai ...id say go for a Honda Accord or consider adding nissan maxima 96-98 to your list :)

Faisal, I thought you were automatically involved in every thread? (uncle faisal :stuck_out_tongue: )

I have Accord EX 97. It's pretty good and I like it. Actually anything from 97-2000 is good (in accords) but make sure you get EX, that's the best one and makes a little bit of difference in the performance. I was able to feel it.

Accord is like right up there in the list of most stolen cars so insurance might not be that low.. it is however a very practical choice.. learn from Baba :smooth:

hmmmm, yeah good suggestion definitely :k:

if its a lease2own, sure, simple leasing? no.. what i had in mind was 2 to 3thousand down, and then use financing or simple monthly payments to pay the rest.. i dont wanna go above 10G cuz if financial condition stays like that, i will be buying another car again in 3-5 years..

khair yes definitely ask the acquaintance in Honda Canada Dealership.. if under 100,000 4door with vtec engine is there, i will definitely be interested in..

problem is, VERY close friends that i hang out with, one is gonna be buying a maxima, and the one who will buy the maxima, his brother is gonna buy altima.. they are already fighting on which one is gonna get which make.. so between three friends, same companies.. ermmmm.. neah man .. next thing u know, jawaan khoon hay unn donon ka, they will try their best to race ..just to prove whose make is faster

EX and EX-R are the ones that i found the most .. they are in generally really good conditions, but mileage is kinda high THAT means people dont give them up easily.. AND Plus they have the highest rate of getting stolen.. just like camry’s

Well true, they are on top of the list of getting stolen cars, if not top, then next to camery, in the range of 1-3. But it's a pretty good car, yes people don't sell those so soon, especially 97. My mileage right now is about 89K and I don't plan to sell it any time soon. Insurance: I don't know how much it is, but it's pretty high, about $ 1200 US for 6 months. But again, it's a good car, not like the ones you have to take to the mechanic every other day.

Beware.. that Shikra may be giving mileage in miles, and faizy is talking of kilometers. The wonders of metric system :)

ji ji .. i realized when he said 89K .. it sounds’bout right :k:

family’s cavaliar itself has gone above 200,000km and still it runs smoothly.. we take good care of the engine and its tuning..

Oh yeah, sorry I remembered to mention the dollars in US dollars but forgot the 89K. Faisal is right and faizy you guessed right, I was talk about 89000 miles. I've seen hondas go 150K+ miles.

definitely man .. :k:

Re: Age 22, turning 23

:roman: Altima is cool and all but I am so in love with the new maxima. Sheesh, parents can be such misers I tell ya..

as i said yaara when we talked me is in love wid the altima and i would blindly most of the new nissans so my number 1 choice NISSAN SENTRA SPEC-V this is the best :k: as for the next best thing would be a honda accord good luck yaara and call me when u get a chance :k:

With 2 accords already in the family (and a third one coming up very soon), faizy you know exactly what i'd recommend : )

Maximas are super in terms of resale and performance but insurance with them is a killer and theres too much power under the pedal. VERY tempting floor that thing everytime you see a tamil in a pink prelude.

Coco is right about making accords look good. Although the 4 door ones after 98 (with the rectangular tail lights) look a bit too family type. I'd say stick to a 97 Accord.
