I have no idea which forum this thread belongs to, mods feel free to move if inappropriate for “General”.
I need idea’s for after school club activities for Secondary school children. Ages 15-18.
Children are quite challenging and the school is in a very inclusive environment, most children are Arab, Turkish, Bengali, African, Iranian, Afgan…basically every nationality you could ever thing of.
We already have Football, Netball, Basketball, Dance, English, ICT, Maths, Science, Chess and Art Clubs.
The idea is to divide them into small groups and let them compete against each other in a game of trivia. You can give them the topic in advance, or ask them for a topic they are familiar with or give them 30 minutes to review 100 questions and then ask them the same questions from among those.
They might be a bit too old for it but you can try.
Writing Center
Knitting
Various magazines/publications (literary magazine, foreign language, yearbook, newspaper)
Cultural organizations
Model United Nations
Junior Statesmen/Young Politicians
Debate
Mock Trial
Drama
Community Service (within school community and/or outside it)
Orchestra/Instrumental
Singing/choir
Thankyou for your suggests people, especially Sahar, I was hoping the high school teacher would reply! I like the idea of a Debate club. As I have to run these club I need something that I would be able to teach and organise and not something like wrestling and paintballing as they are messy and not for women like me.
I actually quite like Lazy's suggestion of teaching them proper English grammar, although I don't wish to "get bare beats" as the children say. I can barely understand what they say as it is, must watch Eastenders more often.
What does MSA mean?
I would prefer the clubs be inclusive to all children and not only for children of a particular faith or culture.

My comment was made in good faith...I love these kids ...they are from my homeland a therefore I know em better than some northerner with her naive ideas of making their lives better

Oh and yes the mock trial WILL help
she can tell them about legal aid and what excuses to use:)
