After School Clubs

Re: After School Clubs

^^^ o yes. Thats brilliant, my sis is doing it now. we also have aerobics / badminton / football / tennis / cafe < poeple can drop in and just drink chai and hang out / drama productions < you let the kids direct and produce etc you dont need qualifications / charity fund raisers < we have lots of these/ band < you just manage and be around, they do their own stuff / we have other awards but i forget what they are...

Im a community officer (promote happiness and a happy atmosphere around the school etc) maybe you can come up with elected officials like that. We have a ball committee that starts organising in Sept and we are still outta time! Butim sure they can start now...Buddie groups, we go and partner lower year pupils and make sure they are ok, we have a scheme of work that we do - some of it fun (quizes) etc and some of it serious. It gives the students responsibility and makes the younger ones better integrated, lessens lower school and upper shcool divide.

by the by, debate clubs can actually be quite boring. You have to follow a set structure and the rules are quite rigid. It is all good "intellectual" fun - but prolly not appealing to ur target group

Re: After School Clubs

a drama production based on goop shoop would be a riot. :D

Re: After School Clubs

Culture club: taking interest in each others' cultural backgrounds. Learning how they dress etc., maybe play-type activities where they dress up in their country's outfit. That's just one thing, there's so many things u can learn from all of their cultures, include language in this too maybe.

Music club: perhaps all genres.

Home Ec. club: with the diversity u have, i'm sure everyone can come up with good dishes (fun esp. for girls)...and even sewing.

Cricket club: fun esp. for boys.

And how about something outdoorsy, i duno, like birdwatching, gardening, fishing...find out wot interests them and then follow those ideas with something productive and creative. Good luck.

Re: After School Clubs

I woul dlove to see ghetto kids knitting and sewing. :killsherselflaughing:

Re: After School Clubs

Football, Netball, Basketball, Dance, English, ICT, Maths, Science, Chess and Art Clubs

You said you want ideas for activities? For these clubs, I'd recommend fundraising activities. Every club needs money, regardless. Competitions as someone suggested. Within the school, and have the clubs register for regional/district competitions. For Math, science, and other academic clubs, have students do tutoring, and give them points for it. They need x amount of points to retain membership.

In math club, in high school, we used to do Pi Day. Pi is 3.14blah blah blah. So on March 14 (3.14), we would hold a day of schoolwide competitions, and have prizes. Every student heard the challenges and questions over the school radio/intercom/tv, and had to turn in their answers. We had this huuuuuge jar of MNM's, and people had to pay a quarter or so to guess how many MNM's there were in the jar. The person with the closest guess got the entire jar. I think the darn thing was like half my height tall.

For the sports clubs, they can do community service projects, like have them visit rehab homes for the elderly or young children, or hospitals. So they can see what its like to NOT have a body that functions well. Plus, it gives them ideas for body-oriented careers they can take up, if sports doesn't work out for them in the future.

A homework help hotline. Set up and run by students.

A student council that deals with student issues, and represents the student body and works with administration to get students the things they need, and fight for rights.

Peer counseling/mentoring program - kids in the school mentoring other kids in the school.

Since the school is so multicultural, having culture clubs, which work with helping new foreign students with weak english adjust, having activities that teach students how to speak the different languages represented by students, have cultural festivals, etc.

School fairs set up by students, where the students sell items to the community - good fundraising.

school plays/entertainment/theatre

School tv - can run announcements for the school. Also a student-run radio station.

Re: After School Clubs

Oh and fast-a-thons. It raises awareness in non-muslim countries of the muslim population, and also gives muslims a chance to do community service. You get students to fast for a day, just one day, and they enlist other people in the community to fast. For each person that fasts, get sponsors to donate food. Then take the food and donate to local poor houses/soup kitchens, etc.
