We have discussed this to death that MQM has started Bhata Khori in Karachi and others like PPP and ANO have followed the suit to benefit but now the Inqilaabi Party have decided to join the league,… here is one of their senior member and party office holder caught by the rangers from their own offices, and in same way PTI have denied any links with the guy saying we have nothing to do with this guy, we have fired him a week ago… even MQM says the same whenever their bhatakhor is arrested… So the plight of Karachians may continue…

What is the news? Here is the list of Parties we have paid bhatta in Karachi to in 80s-90s

MQM current
MQM Haqiqi current
ANP current
Jamat-e-Islami
PPI (Punjabi Pakhtoon Itehad) late 80s and early 90s
Muslim League (Nawaz) early 90s

PPP is non existent in our area but they actively collect bhatta in their strong holds like Liyari and Malir.

and here is the kicker. Many times people are same but party is different. I still remember paying bhatta to Tanveer Kobra when he was associated to PPI and then later to PML (he was in fact president of our area wing of PML). Similerly there were many guys who used to collect bhatta from MQM and then from Haqiqi.

By the way, since you live in Karachi, how easy or difficult it is for an impersonator to collect bhatta in the name of a political party?

I am not in Karachi since last 14-15 years but when I was there (and have seen worst of it), It was (and I am sure still is) pretty easy. I mean who is going to ask for Party ID card or association proof from a group of guys who have a bhatta receipt in hand and TT in the pocket?

To be very honest with you, my father actually bought us a protection by paying bhatta to multiple parties. I was never touch and threatened except for couple of occasion and even then, they released me with “sorry” after realizing that we are regular contributor to their bank account. We were mashallah well to do and could afford it but I felt for people who were poor and had to skip dinner couple of days just because they had to pay bhatta

If found guilty it is really bad. Thanks to MQM/Amn Committee/TTP there is a big pool of "trained" people with skills of 'collecting bhatta/kidnap for ransom', it will be very critical for PTI to selectively recruit people who have no criminal history. The article mentions that the 'regional chief' was dismissed from PTI a week before, PTI will need to accelerate cleansing before MQM/Amn Committee criminals join PTI and bring it bad name.

Must be a terrible experience to live in such an environment. You said you were well-off and managed to fund them, but why those people were not spared who were hand-to-mouth? And it means you have to be a bhatta payer to live in the city?

Anyone ( belongs to any certain political party) when get caught is normally a terminated guy...

But the thing over here is, if anyone and anytime without being checked is offered position in the party then controlling this Bhatta thing is very difficult, as it is said above, any man doesn't matter what party he belongs to, can ask for bhatta and normally a guy who is in bhatta business gets it...

The best way to do it issue a statement by higher ups that NO body should pay a single penny to any political party not in the name of charity or in any kind of support fund and any party member or party found guilty of this should be prosecuted accordingly.. unless and until this is done, there is no other way to get rid of this curse..

In many areas of Karachi, YES. We had to pay bhatta if we dont want our house shower with bullets at night.

And this practice continues to this day.
I have many relative in Karachi that put money aside for bhatta before they pay their other bills and obligations.

In deed. I still have stack of receipts of all bhatta we paid over years sitting in my closet in karachi. Receipts of all color and sizes. I was thinking of making a wal art with those receipts.

Our agony is that we were (then) used to live on the border line of areas under hold of different parties so we had to pay multiple parties each month :smack:

I agree, a strong statement from PTI is in order, they should appeal to public to not pay donation the way they "donate" it to MQM/Amn Committe/ST i.e. their workers handing over receipt for certain amount, instead they should urge people to visit the PTI office and make donation on their own, of their own choice and if anyone forces for higher donation then he should be complained against. Political parties run on public donation, but the way certain parties collect those donations is nothing short of bhatta. PTI should enforce its rules on how to collect donation.
