(from differnt translations)
-We thus made you an impartial community, that you may serve as witnesses among the people
-And thus We have made you a medium (just) nation that you may be the bearers of witness to the people
-Thus We have appointed you a middle nation, that ye may be witnesses against mankind,
-Thus, have We made of you an nation justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations
Thanks. I hope so. It's been pointed out this is not just ethnic violence it is terrorism. Recent statistics is that Out of the 80 people killed 20 were children and 20 women. It's an unfair fight to attack innocents and non-combatants with bows and arrows when other side has guns.
Unfortunately it seems in our region people are more reactive than proactive. Only after a big incident happens do people wake up. I am sure there have been past events have occurred where smaller events have occurred and smaller numbers of died . In the west every life is valued.
It is true that life is valued in the West, but the western elite don't offer the same courtesy to human life outside of West.
You might want to clarify what you mean by 'ousider', coz that is the exact language the right-wing hindu nationalists use whenever they kill muslims anywhere in India...even in states that are far from the Bangladesh border, whenever muslims are killed or their houses burnt down.. it is because they are bangladeshi's living there illegally
also.. given the terrain, lack of infrastructure.. there is nothing the Indian military or para-military forces can do to these guys to contain them... if am not wrong..this insurgency has been going on for almost 30 years now... the only solution is to arm the civilians there and let them protect themselves
It is true that life is valued in the West, but the western elite don't offer the same courtesy to human life outside of West.
When i mean life is valued i look at examples like Sydney hostage crisis. 2 people died, 24/7 newspapers and media covered their lives. People laid kms of flowers for them and for other victims injured. Unless more than 50-60 people die in our region nobody cares as much.I guess humans are a little bit selfish. Their issues are more important than other issues.
Some of the Western elite do do protests and rallies against issues like Iraq war and candlelight vigils for tragedies happening out of West. I mean how many elites of our countries do as much for issues of the West.
Those in power in politics probably dont care like most politicians.
^ to be fair, based on the overwhelming tendency to vote yes for war in some western countries, it could be argued that value of life is more for those in the west. Having said that, doctors without borders etc set the trend for altruism.
Too compex to be boiled down into such simplistic generalizations.
