Nawlins highlighted two serious problems in the US:
Disaster management and recovery.
Poverty.
In post 9/11, the Bush administration has deliberately ignored both. When I look at the pictures of Nawlins and the poverty, those problems, if not more, are equally as dangerous to the US as terrorism.
NY’ers are smart and tough. During 9/11, they organized and fought tooth and nail to be what was needed. I wonder if other cities could come together (like NY did during 9/11) in case of a catastrophe.
To make long story short: I have no faith in Bush or FEMA.
LI, since when is it Federal Govt.'s responsibility to help the people who do not want to help themselves.Do you guys have any idea what kind of problems these "thugs" have alreday casued for Houstonians? You guys live in a dreamland...get off your arse and see what these alleged "poor" folks are doing.... These a-holes have already come up with a scheme to fleece the govt. and the taxpayers by getting those $2000 ATM cards under fradulent identities and social security numbers....yeah they are so poor...oh poor souls....
^^ Kaleem I dont want to see your picture in the newspaper dragging some poor soul in the back of your Chevy Durango or dakota or something... oh yeah silverado.
But I wondered if ppl would scam those 2k cards. NY is much more civilized than Houston but even then we had 2 or 3 incidents after 9/11 with fraudulant schemes, compared to 20,000 mexicans trying to pass themselves as victims of Katrina and other brothas trying to scheme as well.
Kaleem, they dont have jobs and haven't had decent food in a while, and these people who once had the dignity to have homes and a job are now no different from beggars on the street. Stop being such an insensitive jerk. The rest of the country didn't help them much to begin with.
PCG, again get your green towl head down to houston and than tell me about your stupid comments. I am here and have seen their ways...I call it like I see it.
Here are some of the observations (personal)
People defacating on the floor of Astrodome. They have been told repeatedly not to do that...what kind of a person does that?
Using the money provided to buy booze, tobacco and guns.
Restaurants surrounding the Astrodome has asked their regular patrons to be cautious and actually not come back untill the "evacuees" have been moved somewheer else.
Fighting each other in the astrodome and trying to rape little girls.
Originally Astrodoem was supposed to house about 22,000 people, they stopped at 6,000.....hmmm after talking to a police officer these are his words "Security situation inside the dome is bad, we could not gaurantee safety of the people and we had to stop it at 6,000 people".
This is a small list of the actions these "poor" folks have taken. I have not even talked about George R. Brown Convention center that houses upto 7,000 more...which is one block from where I work.
Now you keyboard compassionate bleeding heart asswipes tell me ...WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP?
No it does not, but I see their crappy behavior first hand and all you see is what the media wants you to see. The question remains “what have you done to help the poor folks?”
Welcome to the reality of poverty in America. It’s quietly hidden away from the masses (read: white middle & upper middle class). When you go around half the globe to civilize the arabs, I suggest you pay attention to some of your own people, um I mean ‘refugees’. Look Kaleem, if you like, we can call them Mohajirs ( ). Happy?
1: Reminds me of your MILs dog. Does it burn the astroturf?
2: I can understand buying guns to stick up for booze and tobacco, but not all.
4: Is just plain disgusting I would kill them period, animals is what they are.
Since when does being evacuated make you a saint? People are what they are, whether they have been relocated or not. The media has tremendous clout at times like this, and to the extent they adopt an agenda, they stand to dictate political correctness.
LI, what slap are you talking about? I am just trying to give you the real picture of these so called "poor" folks. They are nothing but petty criminals who are intent upon destroying the environment and goodwill of the people who are helping them. I just get sick of this politcising from folks and laying the blame on GW. Look, everyone knows he screwed up by moving slowly...however, the majority of the blame should be placed on the shoulders of Blanco and Nagin and every single LA corrupt politician who voted against strengthening and rebuilding of the levees in the last decade.
GP, I am ignoring your posts because I smell Kerosene oil....:D
LI, it is not silent millions. I am sure you have all the stats and refrences to backup your moronic claims "silent millions"...there are poors in all cities, however, I doubt it very seriously this is how they act.
You can save your empty claims for your bleeding hearts who will not ask for a proof and run behind you like sheeple...I ask that you substantiate your claim.
there is no shortage of jerks in any group and granted this particular group displaced from NOLA has a larger share of scum.. still.. let's not forget there are legitimate needy people trapped in this fiasco as well.. and mitigating their suffering is worth a couple of thousands going to the wrong crook so he can smoke crack a few more weeks..
my black colleagues have helped out in the Astrodome.. ironic that they admit to not wanting to return to help out their own folks cuz of the disgusting attitude of a very visible majority of the occupants there..
^ real face of poverty in America is not a new concept. Everyone who lives in large cities understands there are poor people in America. If this happened in W Va. you would have had poor white trash, defacating in stadiums. they are more pre-disposed to it anyway, considering their genetic makeup is siht.
