Afridi with all of his controversies and mind blowing performances has a cult following. He is one of the most celebrated Cricket players. After Wasim Akram, he is the one with a World wide appeal, persona and fan following.

goes to show how low the standards have gotten. a man whose bowling average is higher than his batting average is the cricketer of the decade. what a joke. and then to win against the likes of Ponting, Warne. even bigger joke. Warne whatever his age is now is still kicking arse in IPL. now that is a legend.
and Afridi is not even good enough to ask Wasim permission to shine Wasim's shoes. Wasim was a god who had the world at his feet - a man capable of doing magic when he pleased. Afridi is a bacha jamoora whose aik rupaa aik rupaa do dhar waala bacha dekho show might amuse kids but it is not cricket.

I hope we do not confuse this contest. This award does not mean that Afridi is better than Warne or Ponting. It was a popularity contest and Afridi would have won had he retired back in 2007.

What a farce but as pointed out by Man with a Plan these poll results are based on popularity rather than actual performance/greatness as a player
I can list atleast 30-40 players who were better players than Afridi over the past two decades.
I mean just look at the Australians - McGrath, Warne, Ponting, Hayden, Gilchrist, Mark Taylor, Lee etc.. Is Afridi better than any of them? Most certainly not

Come on guys, give him a break, despite his performance he has nice looking body and face and as all of us knows that Gays are increasing every day, many of the voters might not know if he is cricketer or what... it is same as having Pamela Anderson as actress of the decade... and we all know about her ACTING TALENT...
