Exactly my thoughts funguy.. I said it in some other thread yesterdaya s well... If I was incharge, I would double the panelty imposed by ICC, and let everybody know that PCB and Pakistan donot tolerate moronic unsportsmanlike behaviour,, you dont expect such things even in galli ki cricket! and this guy did it in front of the whole world while wearing Pakistan's Test Cap.
I just wonder if Afridi knew the consequences of his stupid act. England were not leading by 400 runs, they were trailing. Afridi knew that perfectly. For me it was not an attempt to cheat but a moment of madness and height of naivity.
Just take a look at both Afridi's face and Bell's face after respective incidents, one can see the difference. Afridi realised he made a mistake and pleaded guilty, Bell smiled sheepishly and got away with it.
I have seen this video again and again and yes, the attempt is to scuff the pitch. Being an international cricketer, you should know what you are expected to do on the pitch. I just fail to see the exact motives of his action. Pakistan is 1-0 up in the series, leading by 350 odd runs., Pakistan bowling attack is way more suited to the conditions than English bowlers. Then why in the world would he do it? Cant we possibly think that he tried to examine the pitch by bending the rules rather than blatant cheating? I am not sure if i am choosing right words but ...
Anyways he got what he deserved, end of story.
But these double standards annoy me to the hilt. Mahanamas' comment regarding Bell's catch was a farce, height of hypocricy.
Some1, why should Pakistan team suffer for what Afridi did in his moment of madness?
And Mahanama’c comments regarding Bell validate my instance on him. Some bbc posters have gone on lengths to defend Bell by saying that he is just bending the rules to his advantage? No cheating? LMAO!
Ok…so it is not CHEATING…since Pak were already in a strong position.
Splendid logic.
So Rich people can go steal…they will not be called THIEVES since they are already rich. Why the heck did they put the Enron/Worldcom CEO guys behind bars…but I digress.
Yup they should not only penalise Pakistan runs they should allocate the match to England, not only this match but the multan one as well and the one in Lahore as well, the only way for England to win the series. Height of desperation. Before you accuse me of bias, go and read my comments on Afridi.
Some1, you wish they penalize Pak team with runs but my dear friend from across the LOC, we like to play this game within the laws. Afridi broke a law of the game, he suffers. Simple. What someone wrote on a BBC site is his opinion and goes to show his lack of knowledge of the game.
okay only a genius would bring this analogy to the picture. world com ceo? yeah sure!
The point here is that Afridi should have known that by doing whatever with the pitch, the only person who is gonna suffer the humiliation is him and him alone. Excuse me for being biased but I certainly saw a confused Afridi after his interaction with Kevin Pieterson while I saw a Bell grinning broadly thinking I have gotten away with it. Both should not have been but sadly one has. Another unfortunate consequence of this episode is that now English team will use this incident as their excuse to an upcoming defeat.
I have a problem when people start suggesting Conspiracy Theories when there is none. It was the same when Shabbir was reported for chucking.
Mahanama always comes across as Shareef person to me…and here we have people accusing him of licking England’s behind… Infact Mahanama’s comments about Afridi’s actions couldn’t have been more polite.
I was wondering why you are being so harsh on the team… now that u have said that u r from across the border… it kinda makes sense… ;; not that i expect all of the indians to have the ill-will towards our team, but u certainly are proving to have one… WHY DON’T YOU LOOK UP THE BELL CONTROVERSY TO UNDERSTAND OUR STATEMENTS ABOUT MAHANAMA… i don’t think u even wana read that .. cuz u only wana comment on whats bad for us…
Dude, its our team … we have strong emotions and at time we may wana defend our team… Just like ENG forums may be defending Bell, we r inclined for afridi… We already suffered three outright UNFAIR dismissals of our in-form batsmen… and now this afridi stuff… Give us a break and see if u can discuss india vs. s.africa series…
and yeah while you research Bell’s incident, bear in mind that I dont mean to say that both deserved equal punishment.
Regarding Mahanama; Why am I or most pakistanis for that matter are goign to be pissed at him? Because he could not take actions against Bell. He could have banned Afridi for whole series, no one can complain or appeal.
I just hope that relations between two teams dont get damaged. Afridi should apologize to both English and Pakistan team members for his actions if he already hadnt done so.
i will be in peace if umpires atleast admit their ignorance of not referring the two catches to third umpire and then referring inzi’s run-out to third umpire
