Afridi spectator incident

Re: Afridi spectator incident

I dont think afridi did anything there. If he wanted to hit him, he would have. It was just a response to what he was saying. Perhaps he should have ignored it, but the spectator might have insulted him personally. Nothing wrong with a measured defence.

Re: Afridi spectator incident

Forget cricket for a moment. If these were two ordinary people and if one of them said something to provoke the other, he should expect a response. What Afridi did was not unprovoked and could be very well considered as an act of self defence. Cricketers cannot be expected to be the general public's personal punching bags.

Re: Afridi spectator incident

^new deinition of self defence.

Re: Afridi spectator incident

I would not call it self defence, rather it is a hostile response to a provocative spectator. So as the analogy was made, if this were 2 people and one provoked the second what should the second do in response? If they are not following a script then the second might yell back or if short tempered might show intent to assault or actually strike a blow in assualt. What will the case shape up to be in a court of law if there was no physical altercation? I would think the first might sue the second for showing aggression but at the end the case will in all probability be dismissed with the second issued a warning or a restraining order to maintain distance with the First.
Hence ICCs ruling of 4ODIs is over and above any reason. Atmost it should have been 2 limited overs games.

IMHO.

Re: Afridi spectator incident

As a cricketer you should know not to respond to spectators.

Re: Afridi spectator incident

it was very unpreofessional of him to say the least....

the ppl pay money to see him batting, and if he gets out playing stupid shots, maybe the spectator thinks that his money has been wasted....
so cud just have been a "reaction" from the spectator....

Re: Afridi spectator incident

i begg to differ crickters are human beings too so you can expect them to be provoked and react to anything against them;
