Less than a fortnight after announcing his retirement from Test cricket, Shahid Afridi has reversed his decision following talks with Shaharyar Khan, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman.
“Afridi spoke with Shaharyar Khan who, after a long discussion, convinced him his decision was not in his own interest or that of the team,” a spokesman for the PCB told reporters. It has been suggested that the PCB told Afridi that if he quit playing Tests then his grade one central contract would have to be reviewed.
Afridid originally said that he wanted to concentrate on one-day cricket ahead of next year’s World Cup.
I knew this was gonna happen. Afridi announced his retirement because emotions took over him…but finally sense has prevailed and this is for the benefit for himself and for the Pakistani team.
Don't say that :) ... name one player from our team who is exceptional in the conditions that you mentioned. Atleast his record is better than the most!
It will be interesting to see if the Captain and Coach will still drop him from test team in England as they did in the last few series.
I am sure they can and will. But with all the fuss created over Afridi now, with the Chairman of the PCB getting him to reverse his decision, this will put more pressure on the Captain and Coach to play him in all games.
