Senior cricketers of the Pakistan national team were left fuming and unhappy at a function of the Pakistan Cricket Board after comedians ridiculed them before a live audience.

Captain Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal in particular conveyed their feelings to the board officials before leaving the function, which was organised by the PCB on Friday night to honour the team that won the Asia Cup in Bangladesh in March.

PCB media manager, Nadeem Sarwar, meanwhile, played down the incident and denied any player was upset with the jokes of the comedians who were hired by the PCB marketing manager Asif Jamal for the function.

“No player left the function early or protested. I myself had dinner with some of the players. It was all light hearted stuff,” Sarwar said.

However, sources close to both the players as well as Pakistan’s Geo Channel confirmed that they were unhappy and Misbah, Afridi and Akmal had left early as a mark of protest.

Sources said the cricketers got upset when the comedians ridiculed some of them in front of the audience.

**The comedians showed by gestures how Afridi was unhappy and didn’t give his 100 percent if he was not the captain, while on Misbah they commented he got out early as he wanted to be with his wife.

**The comedians’ act was the brainchild of the PCB marketing manager and department, and sources said PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf was likely to question them about the whole issue.

“Misbah was upset because being the national team captain he felt he deserved more respect and that players need not be ridiculed in front of audiences when a function was being organised to honour them for their performances,” a source said.

During the function, Ashraf announced pay enhancements and bonus awards of 4,00,000 each for the players who leave on May 28 for a full tour of Sri Lanka.

Players are our heroes not like corrupt politicians they demand some respect no one should make joke on their personal lives

They are not heroes, they are just players, entertainers at best!!! not a role model not anything just entertainer who gets paid in the end of the day for his performance and thrown out of stage if doesn't perform well....

They know the price , one should pay for the place they are in - and I agree with OP - these guys need to loosen up - there is no harm on laughing on ourselves ...

They should take a leaf out of Miandad's book , BNN guys mock him and his connection with dawood Ibrahim on every second show - But the guy never seem pissed on it .

On occasions Late Moin akthar had taken mickey out of Imran khan - but it was all laughed away in good gesture .

Seems like the pride has gone into their heads , instead of being thankful they are acting nuts - there are many many better players ( much better then afridi , mishabh and Umar ) gone wasted on the streets / clubs of karachi and lahore .

If r own ppl will not gng to respect r players, how can we except from outsiders, everyone like jokes n fun, but there should be a limit.

They are public figures and should be able to take jokes. Shows immature and childish behaviour on their part. PERIOD.

^^ Totally agree. Players are public figures. Cricketers get paid very good money compared to the rest of their countrymen. They get big corporate deals depending on their popularity in public. Now if they are going to get so much benefit out of this thing then a few jokes should be tolerated. And even if they don't like it, the truth is they have deal with them because that's the price of being a public figure. Despite their occasional heroics all these players have made mistakes as well and we had to deal with them. Afridi eating the ball, Afridi dancing on the pitch, Misbah batting like there's no tomorrow, Umar Akmal refusing to play if his brother is not included etc etc. Pakistani players getting involved in match fixing. Remember it's not just the players who get implicated, the people of the country also suffer the loss of reputation. So if we have to tolerate stuff, they should be mature enough to deal with some jokes as well.

Our cricketers are prima donnas. Roasting in such events is very common. Even the President of USA is roasted at his annual Press Correspondents dinner. No one else but our drama queen cricketers get offended by it. What they call "ridicule" is mild humor and jabs at their performance, style of play, characteristics, etc. So what if the compares calls Misbah out for his slow batting? And Umer Akmal getting offended by someone saying his brother Kamran can't catch? Get real and get a life. If you can't stand the heat, change your profession and do something else.

I thought I had seen everything from out cricketers but this just takes the cake!

I am even more surprised by the people on this forum getting offended. Telling Misbah he bats slow is an insult? Telling Kamran Akmal he drops too many catches is an insult? Saying our top-order is fragile is an insult? Poking Hafeez for his quick batting is an insult?
