A series of bomb attacks have badly hit US troops in eastern and southern Afghanistan in the past 48 hours.
The death toll among in the Nato-led coalition has reached 484 this year and is predicted to far surpass 2009’s total of 521.
Deaths have risen consistently each year since 2001. Afghan police and civilians have suffered far higher casualties. The coalition blames the rise in troop deaths partly on the influx of reinforcements, which is allowing commanders to target previously untouched insurgent safe havens where rebels are mounting stiff resistance. Gen David Petraeus, senior US and Nato commander in the country, warned last week fighting would “get harder before it gets easier”.
In two of the most deadly recent incidents, three Americans died in eastern Afghanistan on one bomb attack on Tuesday. Five died in a single bomb attack in the south on Monday.
Military spokesmen would not say if the bombs hit vehicles or foot patrols.
Homemade bombs using old shells or homemade explosives and hidden in roads, tracks, walls, streams and buildings have become the Taliban’s favoured weapon.
Their use has sparked an arms race with foreign troops evolving tactics, or relying on more heavily armed vehicles and mine detectors to try and avoid them.

i personally think they should've never gone there or iraq and they are only soldiers, a soldier has only one job and that's to follow orders. ask bush all these question..........i still salute those fallen soldiers, they'll always have my respect including the goodhearted pakistani ones that are truly fighting against taliban..........

First: Going and not going to Iraq / Afghanistan. Or you mean They should not go to Iraq and should have been more in Afghanistan.

i have seen many pakistanis supporting them just b/c they are fighting against the nonmuslim "invaders"
i don't think war in afghan or iraq(definitely not) was the answer to 9/11,
no matter what the nonmuslims would be seen as the 'invaders' right? or no? the taliban seem to get stronger and more civilians and soldiers are dying..........it's a never ending battle

I just asked if there is ANY reason to invade Afghanistan? If you want to answer Taliban, do they have any allegations proved in your American Court? Who is Bin laden? What is Al-Qaeda? any proper definition than just they are terrorist? How people know they are terrorist and they have supported terrorism?
Do you even know since when the suicide bombing started happening in Pakistan? Do you even know why Pakistan let America into the country to use Pakistani airbase? Do you even know this isnt our fight, and we are only getting loss for fighting a fight for America?

yaar, i do read dawn,cnn, bbc, both the far right views and the far left views, i also watch some of the cuckoo conspiracy theory videos by some that say that 9/11 was a hoax and it really didn't happen. it was a zionist conspiracy and all that bull just to get all sides of this issue. i've even watched zakir naik videos how why he doesn't see the taliban as psychos........
would never side with the afghan taliban no matter what. they did whip a muslim woman to death just b/c she might or might not have committed adultery, girls' schools have been bombed by them. they're barbarians

Further more I dont reply on few news agencies. Internet has a lot more options to check the reality of the happenings. I am neither supporting Terrorist! but again NOT all the Taliban are terrorist, as there is international forces working within them. America do know which forces and at what location they are doing their work, and never saw their actions in those area. They can only send drones and kill innocents without having a joint task force who can take out terrorist at the border lines to Afghanistan. Only because they know who are involved.
What I do at my home and what I do to myself should not matter to my neighbors "until it distract them!" Invading Afghanistan and then sayin we are helping ourselves and out "allies" from the terrorism is a lie dé grande.

It's not about the minerals friend, it's about who controls Afghanistan and while one might say that who controls Afghanistan will control the minerals so it must be about the minerals, that would be a shortsighted and a very incomplete thought.
The U.S. is fighting for a victory which means a stability with limited amounts of violence in parts of the country that are governed by those who are friendly to the U.S., actively against terrorists, use Afghanistan's resources to move the country forward rather than line their personal pockets, and protect human rights. A loss allows control to those who are Anti-American, support or allow terrorists to operate freely, divert Afghanistan's resources to their own agendas rather than the peoples well being, and violate human rights.
A U.S. victory is far from a given but a loss will never be allowed. If the U.S. can not secure a victory the U.S. will not allow an anti-American, pro-terrorist entity to rule. Without a victory within the next few years the U.S. forces will cease public operations and remove the majority of it's troops. At that point tribes far more brutal than the U.S. military will be armed and paid off to continue the battles, chaos and destruction will rule Afghanistan more than is does now.
Afghanistan was the pot that was allow to cook Islamic fundamentalism without disturbance for many years, the U.S. policy was shortsighted and helped add ingredients to that pot and suffered the consequences. It boiled over and the kitchen caught on fire. While it may end up that the firefighters are unable to put out the fire, you can be assured that it will be contained one way or the other.

Really mature analysis . But I don't think folks here will care once the the US leaves. You see Muslims killing Muslims is a-okay. The most oppressive laws that Muslims have to live under are those of Saudi A., the biggest genocide of Muslims happens in Darfur. Ever heard anybody complaining ?

US is going to supply A-grade weapons to the faction that it supports. Perhaps Taliban will buy these 3rd-class weapons. Or better yet China will supply 'em coz it surely doesn't like US having influence in the Central Asian Region.
