What an important issue to be discussed by the two main parties of that region.
PML-N is not a main party of NWFP. its voters are only in 3 hinko-speaking districts of hazara.

If someone enlightens me, what will be the possible course of action if ANP and PML failed to resolve the issue of province name...?
-Will ANP quit the central Govt
-Will they dissolve the provincial assembly in protest?
-then what about the war on terror
-who gone own the war on terror in NWFP

PESHAWAR: Central leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) senator Haji Mohammad Adeel has said that no other name of the province would be accepted except Pakhtoonkhwa.
In an exclusive talk with Geo News, Haji Adeel said that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) had rejected the name of Afghania on the basis that Afghanistan has been claiming its ownership of the area spreading from Durand Line to Jhelum and now how the PML (N) leaders are suggesting this name.
He said that the names like Abaseen C and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa can be accepted but no name without the word Pakhtoonkhwa would be accepted.
Haji Adeel said Mian Nawaz Sharif had suggested Pakhtoonkhwa Khyber earlier but he is not firm on his stance.

Good to see I am not alone on the Durand line - Afghania connect. Its good to see people are taking in to account the Afghanistan context. Afghania would be a bad name in general.

Consensus is always the ideal in democracy, even the compromise that either name could be used would work .. . Traditionally the Muslim League in NWFP is far more rigidly anti ANP and anti Pakhtunkhwa than the main PML. This goes back to 1947 when the Congress and the original PML were at loggershead, consider even when it came to rapproachment between Jinnah and Ghaffar Khan ..one of the reasons a settlement wasn’t reached was objections by the Frontier league. I suspect there will be a backlash in the pashtun belt against the PML in NWFP due to this delay..there are also rumblings that some senior pashtun leaders in the party may quit because of this debacle..

Because MMA has said today that they have no objection on Pakhtonkhaw.
PML Q has sujjested Pakhtonkhaw abaseen, so basically they are not opposing Pakhtonkhaw.
All others are agree with Pakhtonkhaw.
So perhaps CJ (with once PCO oath) can decide in favour of N$.

Don't mind my remarks because they have decided all issues often late night but perhaps forgot deciding the case of Sh..baz $harif pending in their court .

The ANP has been refusing to allow a referendum on the name change issue. In 1997 the provincial assembly by a 53:02 (45 abstentions) majority voted in favor of the new name. The 2 against votes came from the Saifullahs (from Lakki Marwat), PML (J) Salim Saifullah and Humayun Saifullah both are Pashtoons who openly opposed it. While 45 members did not take part in it (keeping in full mind their political expediency).
If this ethno-centric name is adopted there will be a backlash against this everywhere in Pakistan including Frontier. Already the PML-N legislatures from Hazara division have threatened to quit if this is adopted. An ethno-centric name will further (not dampen) the divisions in Frontier and rest of Pakistan in general. This will only give rise to more ethnic and linguistics politics throughout the country.
When the rest of the world is moving closer into a global village Pakistan is being further broken down along ethnic, linguistic and tribal lines. Once you start dividing yourself there will be no end. You can further divide on basis of Shia-Sunni, on basis of Pashto/Pakhto, on basis of your interpretations of your culture, on basis of tribes and khels, on basis of the resources you have in your area. This will never stop until we move back to the stone age! while rest of the world is speeding into the Space Age we will be satisfying Ethnic and Tribal egos.

Ask N$ to change name of Punjab, Sindh , Baluchistan.
They can try in Punjab.
Ask them to allow Bahawalpur to get rid of Takht e Lahore. Which is not an ethnic demand. This is their historical demand as they have never been in Punjab even after partition. They were included in Punjab by Gen Yahya.

And at last President Zardari was not behind. He asked UNO to stop report about assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Here is my new suggestion and it will wipeout all the controversies . The new name of NWFP should be Peshawar and the name of city should be PakhtonKowah . I think no one will argue on this one .
Look at Karachi, and see how miserable we are just because we never got rid of the triable concept of Mohajirism.
Mohajrism is a movement from the Urban edcuated secular sections of Karachi. It is not tribal in anyway.
Progress does not necessarily lead to betterment.
The basic issue is that the non-Pushtun minority in NWFP is not supporting the Pakhtoonkhwa name. Should the minority be over-ruled by the majority? Or should there be a compromise?
Well the same ANP has always spoken for minority rights so they should follow their own advice too. They have spent much of the 60 years complaining how the majority Punjabis rip off the smaller provices - should nt they practise what they preach when it comes to the renaming issue now?
Some of the minority groups in NWFP have a much longer history their than soem of the Pakhtun tribes.
The next steps will be unifying Pashto speaking areas of Balochistan with this new province and imposition of Pashto on the whole of NWFP.

Now the new name of NWFP will be Khyber Pakhtonkhaw.

Just because we don't have a province named 'Rajputana', 'Brohi-istan' or 'Mohajirabad', does not mean Rajputs, Brohis or Mohajirs etc. were not accepted as part of Pakistan.
I think the Khyber addition is a tactical thing ..it can be used to justify merging FATA with KP now..

CRC members sign 18th Amendment draft
A parliamentary committee agreed on a constitutional amendment. The amendment package would now be presented in the Parliament. All 27-members of the committee, representing all the political groups having their representation in the two houses of the Parliament, put their signatures on the constitutional package’s draft in a ceremony held at the Committee Room of the Parliament House.
The 18th amendment strips the president of powers inherited from the country’s former military ruler, fulfilling a long-standing opposition demand.
Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was the first to sign the draft followed by Naveed Qamar. Besides, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and Ishaq Dar, Babar Awan, Lashkari Raisani, Wasim Sajjad and others also singed the draft. Raza Rabbani thanked all the members of the committee and said the nation’s interest is kept first after setting aside party’s interest.
Federal Law Minister Babar Awan, after singing the draft, said there are nearly 100 clauses in the draft amendment.
The draft amendment transfers a variety of powers, including the ability to fire an elected government and appoint military chiefs, from the office of the president to the prime minister.
