Afghania as a compromise

It is all nonsense. Is Afghania a better name than Pakhtonkhaw ?
Is that only due to a son in law who now live in Lahore ?
If Khyber is good than change Punjab to Rawi, Sindh to Mehran and Baluchistan to Bolan. Can N afford this ? Will Hazara people be happy to be called Afghani ?
Why you are happy to call Pakhtons AFGHANI ?

What the man said. I am not exactly in favour of this name change to Afghania because it would give Afghanistan something to gripe about.

bhaia why so much over-sensitivity?, why you people are bent on disconnecting our links and relativity with afghanistan.
In iran there is azerbijan province whose name matches up with neighbouring country but no complication has produced yet.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

Because of the Durand Line. It opens up a can of worms where you have to again dissect the reasons and viability of the Durand line. If we are going this way, might as well work on getting the rest of the Pashtun population in Afghanistan to join Pakistan.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

The ANP has suggested three names: Pushtoonistan, Pakhtoonkhwa and Afghania
PML-N has countered with three names: Khyber , Gandhara and Abaseen.

The compromise would be to select a dual name from the above list e.g. Pakhtoonkhwa-Abaseen

Re: Afghania as a compromise

its weird how we talk about the Pashtun people in Afghanistan, and yet not willing to let a province be named Pakhtunkhwa.

why should PML-N be the deciding factor there? They dont have political representation in the province, they claim to be speaking for a minority view. Yet they get to mangle a province's name to the point that it will be idiotic. Who the hell will say Pakhtoonkhwa-Abaseen?

Begani shadi mai Abdullah diwana.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

PML-N represents the Hazara people of NWFP

Re: Afghania as a compromise

The precedent was set by the name Gilgit-Baltistan

Re: Afghania as a compromise

how many elected representatives do they have?

Pakhtoonkhwa-Abaseen
Gilgit-Baltistan

Compare the lengths of the words. Thats just writing down, speaking is a different matter.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

Where does the name Abaseen come from exactly?

It is not the fact. They have just lost the NA bye elections. They were on NO 3 (Elder brother of Damad e Sharf). They have only one seat out of 24 in GB, They only represent a minority in Punjab which is actually only central Punab based . Not an issue related to them, better matter should be sent to Provincial assembly if some conflict. Remind it the name of Pakhtonkhaw is three time passed in PA even in PML N led collation government time too.

Abaseen is a local name of Indus river in GB as it is called Attock river in some area. Whole Pakistan is connected to Abaseen.

The basic issue is that the non-Pushtun minority in NWFP is not supporting the Pakhtoonkhwa name. Should the minority be over-ruled by the majority? Or should there be a compromise?

Re: Afghania as a compromise

Basic essence of democracy is that the majority will rules.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

^ yeap. Also in cases where the majority is violating a minority's rights the courts need to make that judgement.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

True. But I would not want this issue to go so far. Pakhtoonkhwa is an easily acceptable name.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

What an important issue to be discussed by the two main parties of that region.

Re: Afghania as a compromise

I just saw another nonsense statement of N$, He said " Sooba Sarhad Ka Nam Aisa Hona Chahiay Jis say Qaumi Tashakhas Mutasar na ho " Subhan Allah Agar Punjab Sindh aur Baluchistan kay namon say Qaumi tashakhas mutasr naheen hota to Pakhtonkhaw say kisi kay pet main dard naheen hona chahiay. And remember the province with most national name 'East Pakistan' is not Pakistan now. Please Make Lahore an independent ....... so we could get rid of these.......

Re: Afghania as a compromise

Senator Zahid Khan of ANP indicated on GEO yesterday that Pakhtoonkwa-Abaseen is acceptable to ANP. I think ANP is doing a sensible thing in going for a consensus with the minority population.

Minority has no right to impose itself on magority.
