Afghani women and veil

In my humble opinion, Taleban are/were trying to put everything to a halt and 're-visit' once they put Afghanistan back on track towards development. I have seen videos of current Afghani women working in factory (carpet making) in burqa/veil, roaming in markets. I don't see any truth in propaganda about 'oppression of women'. The only 'oppression' the world is most concerned about is 'veil', and 'segregated education'. I have seen websites which showed women receiving education in 'current Afghanistan' though they were 'segregated', but whats wrong in segregation?

Changez, there was a report in CNN on 23rd september, in which, teenage girls of different tribes, were raped by the Taliban soldiers.

I also read an article by an Afghan expatriate, in which it is written that a young girl, whose hands were exposed from the veil, were immediately chopped off. It was her wedding day.

I had many discussions on this topic with Indian Muslims and my interpretation is that Islam is best suited for Arabs. Arabs were barbaric tribals and their practices were uncivilised. The revelations were made to imbibe in them order and respect.

Wearing of veil is purely a matter of one's choice. If veil is to be worn by a women because to avoid man's lustful eyes, then I think, man also should wear a Veil to avoid women's lustful eyes.

Suppose a muslim woman working in a office where all the males treat her with dignity, and respect. Then should she wear the veil ???
Many times we need to understand that religion only gives a guidelines for living. We should exercise our own discretion to be fair.

I have seen educated muslim men treating women like their own property. Forget Taliban, even in India, In Hyderabad, I met a muslim couple and unfortunately the young women was having some serious stomach problem. They had come to meet a leading Gastroenterologist in India. The man a graduate, was not ready to permit his wife remove the burqa, so that the doctor can examine. The girls parents somehow convinced him and all the while the doctor examined the patient in his chamber, the man was cursing his wife and her parents and telling them that they would go to hell.

Though Islam may not preach it, but we should remember, the followers should use their basic sense to apply the laws.

As CNN seems to be your source of news. I can now understand why you know, what you know, about ISLAM.

Before making comments about a way of life and it's surrounding issues. At least read and study it's source of guidance!

In your case. The Qur'aan.

Changez_like, I assume you replied in the affirmative to my question, ie. that the Afgani women are not treated badly?

As for segregation: Apartheid means Segregation.....

So why is it okay for the Western Society to have single sex schools!

Just for the record, they are not a dying breed, but a revitalised breed.

The irony is that when Islam promotes segregation it is frowned upon, but when the Non Islamic communities promote segregation, it is classed as pioneering and refreshing.

Time to make your mind up.

'You're either with us or against us'.

Who said it is OK and who said it is wrong?

'You're either with us or against us'.

Oh no, you also have the "Bush" mentality?

I don't beleive in CNN reports much. Though Taleban will not report such incidents even if they occurred. I can't approve of acts like raping women after winning a region, chopping of hands cause it showed up out of veil, I don't beleive any religion allows for any of such act.

We oughta be Changez like, don't we?
