Marwati’s thread in the images section rather inspired me to post a similar thread, so I decided to post a thread about traditional Afghan clothing. Initially, I had intended to photograph my own clothing and post the photographs but as I’m on holiday, I decided to post these photos I came across on pinterest:
And…
which I had intended to photograph but will have to get to later.
This is traditional dress among Uzbeks, who mainly live in the northern part of the country, such as the provinces of Takhar, Kunduz, Balkh and that general area. It’s quite different from the dresses pictured above. I’ve never seen this type of clothing in real life but, from pictures, the embroidery and velvet type fabric used looks rather pretty.
^look very tribal/gypsy. The whole hat thing is very common among Tajiks, no?
Yes. The type of hat worn above is quite similar to the type of hat commonly worn by Tajiks. Interestingly, the areas with large Uzbek populations also have significant Tajik populations as well, so there are some similarities in clothing. The two communities often intermarry amongst each other without any issue. Ironically though, they seem to have quite an issue intermarrying with us (Pashtuns, I mean) and intermarriage is quite rare.

well, they are all in Central Asia so obviously there will be similarities. I have heard of Pashtuns not liking Hazaras but haven't heard of Tajiks and Pashtuns having such problems. Isn't there a very small population of Tajiks in Afghanistan? I don't think there are any Tajiks in Pakistan. I know we have pocket communities of Hazaras.

There are Tajiks in Pakistan too, not that many though. In Afghanistan there are about 40 % non Pashtuns (Tajiks, Uzbeks, Turkmen and Hazaras etc).

Actually, Tajiks make up about 28% of the population. They're a minority for sure, but I wouldn't say few. I think you may be thinking of Uzbeks as they only make up about 8-9% of the population and are relatively few.
they’d be immigrants in Pakistan like others (result of the war in the country for the past 4 decades). I have seen quite a few non Pashtun Afghans in Islamabad.
Kuchis generally wear the same type of traditional clothes as the settled tribes. Their attire does have certain unique characteristics though, such as the use of coins and metalwork and their distinctive jewellery.
Note the headpiece and the use of jewellery in their attire:
