Afghan Traditional Clothing

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

is that sita qasemi?

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Yes, it’s Seeta in the second picture. It’s from some photoshoot she did showcasing the various types of traditional attire worn in Afghanistan.

This picture of her in traditional Uzbek attire is from the same shoot:

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

wow interesting  some of the dresses look slightly north arfican. Can i ask does afghani clothes differ alot from pakistani clothes?

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Being a Pakistani, I think I'm also qualified to answer this question. Traditional tribal Pashutun and Baloch dresses are almost identical to most of the dresses posted here.

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Afghani clothing differs quite alot from Pakistani clothes, with the exception of the attire worn in Balochistan. There is quite a bit of similarity between our traditional attire and Baloch traditional attire. How it differs specifically depends on the ethnic group you're referring to as traditional attire differs among the various ethnic groups in Afghanistan. In general though, lehengas, sarees, salwar suits and other Indian style outfits are not worn in Afghanistan.

My SIL is afghani..and she is into afghan fashion...nice clothes though..

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Maxi :hmmm:

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Thanks for the info, my friend is pashtun so i guess thats what her family wears at home?

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Those dresses are so nice. I want one!

Btw, I have a lot of Afghan friends and they wear shalwar kameez even more than Afghan clothes when going to Afghan/Pakistani/ Muslim functions. Is this common?

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

^ It depends where they're from and on the individual of course. People who live on the border near Pakistan or are originally from that region (or who have lived in Pakistan) sometimes do wear Pakistani clothing. How common it is would depend on the community in question I think and on individual preference. Within my family and with most people I know, most people only wear traditional Afghan clothes at Afghani functions and western wear at other functions and for everyday.

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

^Yeah, I've noticed Afghan girls tend to be more like Iranian + Arab girls in that they tend to wear more western style clothing (inc at weddings)..

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

Pakistani Pashtuns are Pakistani, and Pakistan's national dress is Shalwar Kameez. Even the Pashtun tribes from Pakistan tribal belt wear shalwar kameez as everyday dress.

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

But in TV, mostly afghan women are shown in Burqa, I thought burqa is national dress of Afghanistan :)

Re: Afghan Traditional Clothing

^ Don't believe everything you see on TV! :)
