Re: Advice for first time parents???
Trust your self and make sure you get help for the first few weeks.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
have a lots of patience and strength to sacrifice ur personal freedom...you'll NEED them :) but, every ounce of these are WORTH it!!! :)
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Dont sweat the small stuff, just focus on enjoying the baby, esp in the first few months but then it also applies all throughout.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Do not under any circumstance thi k u are the boss. U arwnt. The baby is. U have to follow IT'S cues and not the other way around.... I would have saved on buckets of tears had i been told this and not attempted to control my first born's eating, sleeping etc habits!!
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Trust your instincts..!!!...Sounds very basic, but go by them.
Also do not obsess over unfolded laundry, dirty dishes or stuff all around the house, especially initially. It will take some time for everything to fall into a routine.I am also not sure how applicable this is for everyone, but it certainly was for me.I had a major meltdown a week after I had my baby, because nothing in the house was where it was supposed to be.I felt everything was a mess, even though ammi was here and helping me with everything.I wanted to do it but the C section made it even more hard. Now look at me,I just go with the flow. When you got kids in the house,a lil bit of disorganization is a part of it.
Also, try to rest or take a nap when the baby is taking one.Nights are erratic with newborns.
Lastly, enjoy every moment ...they grow up so fast that it is unbelievable. Before you know it,they will start saying 'no' when you tell them that 'you are my newborn baby'....:D
Re: Advice for first time parents???
The best way to figure out what to do for you baby is to look to your baby.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Don't force anything on the baby...sleeping, eating...etc.....it just ends up being a torture for the mother....for instance when feeding Ahsan...I used tot ry to make him finish his bottle or food when a lil older......he used to throw up everything....if anything a little extra goes in their tummies everything comes out....used to spend hours cleaning the carpet floor clothes....so just go with the flow.....
Re: Advice for first time parents???

Lies! :p Diaper genies are awesome and when they Deal with poo diapers, they're even more awesome. Refills don't cost that much and are always going on sale at walmart or bru. If you are being offered it, take it!
Take time out for yourself even if it's just taking an extra long hot shower, or a walk around the block. You are your baby's primary caregiver so you have to take care of you so you can take care of baby.
Have no expectations of grand parenting achievements initially- the first few months are tiring, sleepless and challenging and having the baby will kick your ass lol but it is the most rewarding thing you'll ever do. And remember, they are born with personalities- you'll just teach him to manage his, so enjoy discovering his.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Also, don't be stubborn just to prove something to the old you who used to talk trash about parents not managing their babies. The old you didn't know what she was talking about. Don't be afraid to be flexible and accommodating to your baby. Don't be scared of spoiling him. That's what mothers are for. :p
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Someone said to sleep whenever the baby sleeps.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
It's the coolest thing you'll ever do...being a mom, that is.Spend time doing baby massages. Kids love it. They look into your eyes with awe and love, and it makes you want to hold your child and never let go. Don't feel sorry for yourself or feel like you're a victim. It's a privilege, and a blessing.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
That first night at home will be HORRIBLE, so be prepared for that.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
OK, here's one that NOBODY talks about and is a difficult subject. A lot of mother expect that they will be instantly in love with their baby the minute it comes out and it will all be bliss. For a lot of fortunate mothers, this is true, but there are some who don't feel that instant connection. Same goes for the father. If you do NOT feel this instant connection, and have feelings of "what have I done?" or "why did we do this?", don't condemn yourself. That guilt will kill you. Just know that 3 months is the magic number. If you're struggling, expect to struggle for the first three months, whether it's sleep issues, feeding issues, crying issues, whatever. 3 months is like a magical time because that is when your baby will start responding to and smiling at you and EVERYTHING will suddenly become worth it. From 3 months till the day you die, your bond will become stronger and stronger and you will love your child more and more every day.
Good luck.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
If you can get help from family, TAKE it. You're gonna need all the help you can get. Don't be shy. Pride ain't worth it.
aahmed also gave very good advice. First few weeks are exhaustive for mother.
Re: Advice for first time parents???
Feeding can be the most stressful part of being a parent. I would say, don't stress about it, but I don't practice what I preach. I guess, just be prepared for that. And I mean breastfeeding, starting solids and offering new foods, weaning, and all the resulting potty problems that can result.
