"We are working on the draft of a sharia penal code where the punishment for adultery, if there are four eyewitnesses, is stoning,"
I think that part is very clever if you think of it. That way they are making sure that religious fanatics would be happy, but no one would ever be stoned to death.

^ whether or not they can find "four witnesses", the law will be there... is Pakistan's hudood ordinance any different?
Re: Adulterers to be stoned... in Afghanistan (11/25/2013)
May be they thought of Law of Musa A.S when accepting it :p
Re: Adulterers to be stoned... in Afghanistan (11/25/2013)
I think it just proves that the Afghan civil war was more of an ethnic war than a religious one.
A bit of explanation:
Taliban are/were mostly Pashtun. That was the main reason other non-Pashtun Afghans were opposing Taliban rule.
Otherwise non-Pashtun Afghans are no less extremist.
This is why it was dangerous of Pakistan to take sides in that conflict. Because that conflict was about ethnicity. And siding with "Pashtun" Taliban, Pakistan ensured to make enemy out of non-Pashtuns like Uzbeks and Tajiks.
Re: Adulterers to be stoned... in Afghanistan (11/25/2013)
Probably because pashtuns have a big say in army / ISI who controls the foreign policy especially when it comes to Afghanistan. So much for pashtunistan wet dreams of afghans!

its not the law but the misuse of the law that makes a mockery out of the legal system that we have in Pakistan.

So is this what NATO has achieved during the past 10 years at the cost of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars?

Re: Adulterers to be stoned… in Afghanistan (11/25/2013)
Very good punishment since that way you can also take revenge from anyone by simply involving 3 more people and say that person committed adultery and we saw it. Smh ![]()
Re: Adulterers to be stoned... in Afghanistan (11/25/2013)
^ Not as good as the blasphemy law.
You don't even need to go to court to get your enemy killed. Just go outside your home/ office/college and start screaming "Aik shaks nay blasphemy kar di hai..aao pakro uss ko". Within minutes a mob of otherwise regular people would've assembled, ready to to beat, anyone you point your fingers at, to death.

NATO is a military organisation not a missionary or charitable one. It is down to the people to change such laws if there is a collective willingness to do so.

what guarantees are there that this law will not be misused in Afghanistan?

Did you not see all those character assassinating videos about how "cruel" Taliban were, how "cruel" their laws were, how bad sharia is etc when they were condemning Taliban to hell in summer of 2001 and getting ready to invade to liberate Afghans?
What guarantees are there that any non sharia law can’t be misused in Afghanistan?

Those articles were used to justify the war by certain parts of the media. Simple propaganda. NATOS's main objective was to destroy the training grounds of Al-Qaeda and remove their base of operations. It is a matter of opinion whether they have succeeded or not. The original objective was not to defeat the taliban or change the countries legal system.

Why is the government so interested in what goes on in bedrooms?
