Volunteer at a local soup kitchen , orphanage, hospice , hospital , go clean masjid , mandir or church, adopt a highway . Join Boys and Girls club, Habitat for humanity , Work on organizing events to empower desi or Muslim community. You said there were no desi organizations where you live , work on forming some meaningful organization. If you are not lazy and full of energy and want to do something , there is plenty to do just open your eye and look around.
I do a number of these things already and with my work which takes up most of my life and energy, I give back enough as it is to the community.
