Re: Adopting From Pakistan
Here's the thing. Not to guilt trip anyone. I work hard for my money, and inshallah, I'll save up enough for this over the next few years.
But honestly - pakistani families often spend that much on a trip to Pakistan solely meant to establish that year's wardrobe for the daughters in the family for purposes of rishta hunting (very common around where I grew up). Can you imagine how many babies can be adopted with all that money?
Why the need to put those families down? Are they hurting you in any way? hurting the orphans in any way?
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
^ I know a lady who has to stay there for 6 months to have the adoption processed - so four months is pretty conservative.
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
What's the purpose of having to stay there though? That's what I don't get. It's not like they can observe the environment where the kid would grow up, because that environment is overseas.
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
It's not unique to Pakistan - a lot of countries where the adopting family is out-of-country require the couple or adopter to stay for a certain amount of time.
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
I'm not sure but Pakistan has some strict guidelines regarding adoption if you want to do everything legally. I think you have to be Muslim and be married in order to be eligible. I know the Edhi Centre in NY doesn't even allow adoption for couples who already have a biological child of their own.
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
so a single woman cannot adopt?
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
ok yeah whatever, next time i go to pakistan i'll talk to eidhi's myself

I'm not sure who the girl I know of went through, but they had a biological child and wanted to adopt a second child in Pakistan and did so. She talked about how difficult the process was but I don't think a having a biological child is an outright detriment to adopting in Pakistan.

Yes, with the families I know I of here, it was more like a 9 month+ process, so I think 4 months sounds a little soon..

PCG yeah I think it's going to be hard to adopt as a single woman from a country like Pakistan. Unfortunately they don't realize that a single woman is capable of providing a child a much better upbringing as opposed to them being brought up in an orphanage.

Talk to his wife, she's a hoot! I read his autobiography a couple of years ago and the stories about his wife and her antics were so funny.
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
PCG, I live in the U.S so there will be fewer hurdles in adopting me... I am open for an adoption :p ...haha. Your problem is solved.
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
I love how it's easier to let kids beg on streets rather than make the legal process a little easier
Re: Adopting From Pakistan
This is why I think bombshell= noodles. He always asked for adoption too
