Phaeton was way too pricey for a VW - close to $70-80k. It was competing against Audi's A-8, and lost due to brand name.
Genesis is about $35-40k. Its a sweet spot, and if you get 300+ hp, 300+ torque, on a V8 with all the goodies, and a damn good exterior style to boot, it makes for a compelling argument. Not to mention that lately Hyundai is besting German and US brands in reliability ratings. Not many people have actually seen the car yet, so its premature, but if the interior fit and finish is really as good as Hyundai and early reviews claim, this car can potentially change the game. Of course, it will be hard to sway brand name concious buyers who want a kidney-shaped grill or a three-coned star on their car.
