Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Been to a dermatologist a few years back and the problem didn’t get solved. Have it for over 13 years now.

Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Go get antibiotics frm derm and try Differin :) don't use facial wash that are too strong

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

What did the dermatologist recomend back then?

You need an oral plus a topical med as far as my knowledge goes. Good luck!

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

^ Erythromycin. i used it for approx 2 mth.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Over a period of 1.5 years, each course had different medication - oral and topical. A couple of them didn't suit me and I quit after about 3 months. One particular cream was effective but after 5 months, couldn't find it in any store in rwp/isl so just stopped.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

2 months sounds like a really short time but wow if that worked. Will consult a dermatologist before I start using it though. Already experimented a lot =/

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Water. drink lots of water and avoid colas, sweets. sounds so mimmalistic and useless but its a great beginning to claim your skin back from the nasty zits. and how much will it cost?? nothing. do give it a try, It helped me a lot, I was suffering from acne for the last 7 years and this really helped me by making my skin less oilier.
The next step is to follow a skin-regime, scrubing-toning-healing if u have an oily skin and cleansing-toning-moisturising if u have dry skin.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Have you tried benzoyl peroxide creams? or retin-a? do you oily or dry skin? and what does your skin care regime consist of?

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

I used a cream on dermatologist prescription a few years back that had benzoyle peroxide. Didn't suit at all. I don't really have a very good schedule as far as skin care is concerned. I wash my face with neutrogena anti-acne facewash daily. Use scrub once a week, less frequent sometimes. Use masks and nose strips quite regularly.

I used loreal anti-acne facial wipes which worked really well compared to any facewash i ever used but they seem to have disappeared from the market now. A totka that worked well was using ginger juice on my skin but the solution is temporary. It still works if I have to attend a function. I follow that routine for a couple of days and my skin gets clear. (will post a picture when i try that next time)

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

You should look into using Retin A and some type of cream with Glycolic Acid in it (between 8% - 12%).

Certain birth control pills such as Ortho Tri Cyclen are also know to reduce acne so that's also an option. I know this made a big difference with me.

Don't use masks too often. They can have a drying effect on the skin which can cause more acne.

Do you wear make-up daily?

So you do have something that works. What do you mean by the solution being temporary? All acne treatments are temporary. Meaning if you stop using them....the acne will come back.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Thanks - will definitely try.

Mask sort of help because my skin otherwise is too oily.

and Makeup - I wish that I could use it daily but my acne gets worst if I do.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Give up diary products eg yogurt and milk for a while eg about 2 weeks and see if there's a difference. Google info' on acne and eating diary products.

If you're used to having milk in your breakfast change your breakfast to a glass of orange juice with toast etc instead of cereal.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Its the other way round in my case. Adding these to the diet improves acne and even scars :)

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

as much as I hate to admit it, water and cut the sodas and cut the sweets --> helps a lot.

adult acne, esp in women, is tied into our metabolism substantially.

most women actually have PCOS and just never know. And you can ease it down by 1) water 2) losing weight/excercising and 3)cutting toxic crap from your diet, like sodas.

I hate drinking water, so I try to add in artificial sweetners to force myself to drink it. :(

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

Try Roaccutane...consult ur derm.

Re: Acne Treatment - Any suggestions?

I don't know if this is available where you live but, Proactiv worked for me. I eventually stopped using it because my skin cleared up.

Drink lots of water! that always helps.
