I’m determined to getting you all to use/find the right foundation. It took me years to perfect my foundation. The issues I was having were:
a.) the color didn’t match
b.) the foundation changed colors
c.) it would look shiny
d.) wasn’t suitable for my skintype
After several useless buys and being conned by the saleswomen, I can say i’ve found the right products for my skin.
-Always exfoliate your face, it gets rid of any flakes and dry skin and makes foundation go on smoother.
Always moisturize your face, this helps the foundation look more natural..keeps your skin moisturized and makes blending easier.
Use either a primer or a mattifying balm, keeps the foundation in-place for longer.
Here are the products that work for me:
Concealer is essential to cover-up all your blemishes, dark circles and uneven skin. Concealer can go on under your foundation or over your foundation depending on the coverage that u require. I find that by using a concealer brush, the makeup blends better and looks more natural.
Foundation should look natural, it should match and blend-in with your skin-color. Blend foundation down your neck too. I like the MAC 190 brush for my foundation, I dot tiny amounts all over my face and stroke my brush in downwards and outward strokes.
I set the foundation with either MAC or Clinique’s loose powder. Notice that I don’t use products from the same range. If you blv another brand is a better match, use it.. you don’t have to use a concealer, foundation. powder all from the same brand.
For the pressed powder I use a smaller Clinique brush..and for the loose powder a larger one. Loose powders soak-up all the excess oil/sebum from your face and leaves you with a smoother finish.
This week we’re ALL going to master the art of foundation…come hail come storm! Post here all your foundation, concealer and powder queries. And all of you that have already mastered your base, post step-by-step pictures and help fellow guppans out.
i dnt know anything about bases either :(
have got loads of brands but nothing seems to match..they r either too dark,or look yellow infact look orange..im a total failure ;0
I hate having anything on my skin.... hate the feel of any foundation....
...Alhumdulillah my skin is clear and even toned... I normally just moisturise and use Chanel's translucent powder (love the stuff) as a base ... and then just use blush or bronzer....
...if I do have a bit of redness on my skin or any blemishes, then just use a bit of Boots no. 7 concealer on these bits..... it's the only concealer that matches my skin colour... and believe me, i've been through soooo many brands..... and then just set this with my chanel powder.....
Gina how can I stop dry skin? I moisturise before applying foundation but as soon as I start applying it, I get flakes around my lips and nose. It's just never smooth. Would a primer help?
You use either or HNK, I posted pictures of both because I shift. Pressed powder gives more coverage and can be used on it’s own while loose powder is used to ‘set’ makeup and helps soak-up natural oils from u’re face.
Kuri, do you exfoliate before moisturizing? A primer will help, invest in a good one
Great thread. For me the foundation never gets right for me.It is either a grease ball or flake festival.I am longing for that polished slightly dewy fresh look that i see in every other woman's face. Some times i even thought of asking them about the products they used.
My skin is dry,but i could never find a foundation that is good for it.It always gets peely flaky after some times. If i avoid setting powder, then it won't last.
Come on ladies help me with some suggestions.Should i try some specific brands.
Gina...I have dry skin as you know...and my foundation never looks smooth...I've found the perfect shade but just not the right formula I guess...What do u think about NARS sheer glow foundation for a natural dewy look?
Somebody help me too please? I have acne breakouts and scars so my base never gets smooth and dewy. I always feel like i have too much makeup on even though i use a light foundation (Origins Stay Tuned). Sometimes for parties i use a primer and illuminator (Victoria Secret). Armani primer breaks me out so i am on the hunt for a new one preferably without silicons. Is there anything else i can do? already working on fixing the acne part but that's not going anywhere forever.
gina wats ur opinion abut shiseido' compacts n foundations??i tried their tester n it was not bad really inapplication...smooth soft valvety...wat say if u know?
i have a combination skin. and am prone to breakouts. i also have some depressed acne scars. some hyperpigmentation dark marks.
i don't know what to use. I tried using Rimmel's 'hide the blemish' concealer. doesnt have that good a coverage. Tried using maybelline's dream matte mousse. It makes me look as if am wearing too heavy a makeup though it has a good coverage. but for day-wear it's a big no no.
any help Gina would be greatly appreciated.. :)
and btw this is a lifesaver thread for a lot of girls am sure ! :D
