See I don't even know if I'll like Al-Ain anymore - most of my memories are from my childhood, and I guess its the outdoor recreation aspects that aren't lacking in Al-Ain... plenty to do on that front. Also, I suppose you need to have a well established social circle to have fun in a small city like that.
Al-Ain might be too small and quiet although I've lived in other smaller cities, and personally find a calm, quaint environment to be more pleasant anyways... so I might like Abu Dhabi over Dubai in general - not overly crowded and not as dull as Al-Ain either.
I just can't stand being stuck in traffic for hours and that was the most annoying experience of my last visit to Dubai in 2005. It took me forever to get from my hotel to my conference location over the course of three days, and that put me off from doing any more sight-seeing.
Lucid due to recession in dubai, a lot and i mean a lot of ppl have migrated to AUH from dubai and other emirates. when you are on road, you will see so many cars with dubai number plate. its too crowdy in AUH now days. Parkings r full and every 3rd parked car is from dubai. I hope dubai gets better economically asap and these guys can go back to their place .. lol no offence but its really getting over crowded here, creating disturbance in our peaceful place
and also what i have noticed these dubai drivers r so bad in driving. I am sure they r getting the maximum traffic tickets n fines for violating AUH traffic rules … lol.
thanks Lucid Chaos.. I imagine Al Ain has changed pretty much apart from it being lush green with lots of roundabouts its a nice place to live apart from the QUIET and BORING factor with people of our age group..alhamdolilah its good and knowing that Dubai is an hour or so away is real comforting!!! AD is nice but I personally find it too overcrowed especially Hamdan street... it is lovely though......
makes sense… let’s hope the economy improves for everyone’s sake and things return to some semblance of long term stability.
I’m not even sure if I want to move to the Emirates but it’s something that’s always at the back of my mind - I guess because I associate with it quite a lot having grown up there. Let’s see what happens.

lush green lots is what Al-Ain is all about - or used to be all about... Ain-al-Faidaa, Hadeeqat-al-Salimi, Hili, Jahili - so on and so forth.
nnoo hunney they didnt granted theres about 4 underground dual carriageways kinda passages but nope!!! The ALAINIANS certainly like their roundabouts- no thought spared for those suspensions!!!!!!!!!!!!!:;)
Al ain I like very much in UAE , My father works there and we mostly go there Al ain nice in regards of quitness , greenery and No high rise buildings, its pleasant weather and Presence of Hills and Mountains .
Very less traffic signals are there and the rest are Roundabouts ,which makes the traffic flow smooth.
Not hot as AUH or Dubai.
House Rents are reasonable and due to less rents of Shops and Malls prices are less comparable to Dubai or AUH , I think in Al ain Every place is recreation place.
on about 1 Hour Distance from Dubai and AUH.
Al ain AirPort is very quit , and having many free Parking Lots.
But , since last one year Alain City Roads are badly shuffled due to Massive Construction.
And some New projects are going to start soon in Al ain, which may make more trouble in making movements.
accha engrshami.. accha thats cool...believe it or not but rents ae getting pricey too- ceratinly not as expensive as Dubai but for locals- its certainly expensive...yes I know about the road planning thats curretly going on- its too much and now theres a great deal of congestion especially in and around al ain street and Khalifa ibn Zayed street - its affected alot of the businesses.......thanks for sharing that.....At least I know im not the only Guppie in ALONEY AL AIN!!!!!!!!;)

You're certainly not alone... see you have a former resident aspiring to go back (me), a frequent visitor of the city (engrshami), and as far as I know, guru8904 is also an Al-Ain resident - he's a book author, so I suppose the city might suite his lifestyle.
Many of my Pakistani friends who were with me in school (Emirates Private School) who're now all over the world still talk about the city with very fond memories regardless of the fact that there was really nothing to do other than social mingling and outdoor activities.

I'm certainly interested in seeking and evaluating career opportunities - hopefully sometime in the next 1 to 2 years. If it's going to be Al-Ain or Abu Dhabi, I don't know yet - depends...
I wish u the very best Lucid Chaos.. However as ur probably aware, not much going on in Aloney Al Ain- AD and Dubai are the main players....but I suppose it depends on ur field and career path...Wishing u well...
^ well Al-Ain bodes well with my field as I'm an academic and Al-Ain happens to have the most prominent University not only in the UAE but the entire the middle east region.
