“Misled” ![]()
Why didn’t US guide him? Why did US kept “secret” all the information of WMD’s whereabouts and let Blix be “misled” by Saddam?
And some US news outlets reported it as two Iraqi “Generals” are caught. Well done, the miracles of modern journalism :k:
Even if it is proved that Iraq has WMD's, is the invasion justified?
No Chemical Weapons Found At Site In Najaf - TV, Yahoo News, 24 March 2003
NEW YORK (Dow Jones) - U.S. officials said Monday that no chemical weapons were found at a suspected site at Najaf in central Iraq, U.S. television networks reported.
NBC News reported from the Pentagon that no chemicals at all were found at the site. CNN, also reporting from the Pentagon, said officials now believe the plant there was abandoned long ago by the Iraqis.
Why does this remind me of the US government's claims in 1998, regarding that factory in Sudan, which they bombed to smithereens with US cruise missiles? It turned out later that it was the al Shifa pharmaceutical factory and its only crime was that it produced aspirins.
If the US was so keen on proving that Saddam had WMD, then why did they not capture the so called site on day 2 or day 3...
Why wait till day 6.
Even if it is proved that Iraq has WMD's, is the invasion justified?
Wav what logic
and have another 911 or something of that sort...
Report of arms factory played down, Vikram Dodd
The Guardian, 25 March 2003
Hopes of a much-needed propaganda coup for the US seemed to be crumbling yesterday, after reports of the discovery of an Iraqi chemical weapons plant appeared false.
…] The reports of possible chemical weapons, from the Jerusalem Post and the US TV news channel Fox, quoted Pentagon officials. But yesterday, members of the US military downplayed the reported find by the 1st Brigade of the US 3rd Infantry division.
What's so sadly funny about all this is that:
if America is right, we're shown to be stupid ("barbaric and inhuman" Iraq outsmarted us for how long??);
if America is wrong, we're shown to be stupid (they really don't have weapons? was that satellite photo upsidedown??)
aye... I need to get a Dutch passport...

Supposed to be preventing another attack like 911 or worse.
Justified? Not to innocent Iraqi's. Or to many in the world including many Americans.
What if? What if GBJ and Company are right that Saddam would smuggle these weapons to terrorists? Or use them himself on his own people, or anyone he may have a greviance with? Like maybe Kuwaiti's, possibly Iranians, Israeli's or Americans?
Though many here could probobly care less if they were used on Israeli's or Americans.
Sometimes I think we are all paying for the mistakes of our fathers, and our children will be paying for ours. Vicious cycle. Wonder if we will ever get it right?

You are only repeating Bush's words, there is nothing more to it. First it was OBL responsible for 911 and Afghanistan is bombed to dust, now its Saddam who "can" do 911 or similar and now it is being bombed. The way its going, I think most of this century will be spent fighting wars.

You have a very wrong impression of people here. You are placing a HUGE bet on "if Saddam would smuggle these weapons", and with that you are bombing a whole nation, attacking a sovereign nation.

Only if you can stop this aggression.

Yes, I did. Was meant to be hypothetical. Doesn't mean I support pre-emptive war. I think pre-emptive war is a hugely bad idea. And you are quite possibly correct that most of this century will be spent fighting wars because of it.

Shouldn't have made that comment. It was wrong. I let my emotions get in the way Changez_like. Its really hard for me sometimes to read all the criticizm of "Americans" and "You" without taking it personally even if I often agree. And even harder when seeing the slaughter happening to those involved on both sides.
To the satisfaction of many, the PR damage has already been done with yet another baseless allegation from the US government.
(Yahoo News: Latest and Breaking News, Headlines, Live Updates, and More), Matt Kelley, Yahoo News, 25 March 2003
WASHINGTON - U.S. military investigators have found no evidence that chemical weapons have been made in recent years at a suspect chemical plant secured by U.S. troops in southern Iraq, a senior defense official said Tuesday.
I think we will soon find out the truth about Saddam's posession of WMD.............the closer we get to Bagdad.
But then...........maybe the USA will get the blame for all the dead Iraqis civilians?

Who do you want to blame for the death of 1000s of innocent people who most likely will die in this conflict? The Russian Mafia?
?
I don't know where else to put this so it's going here..
Every time I turn on Fox News they are raving about Iraqi POWs being found carrying cipro or atropine and they are also getting excited about the NBC suits found at the hospital in Naseriya (?). This is bothering me because they make it seem as if these things are evidence that Iraq has bio/chem weapons - I'm sure it does, but then again anyone with a swimming pool or a kitchen does.
But these items of protective equipment by themselves are no sign of anything. The Swiss army has all the same but that doesn't mean they are planning on gassing Liechtenstein. Do you hear that the German Swiss are going to kill all the French and Italian Swiss!! No, you don't hear that.
If anything, the Iraqis have these items as reinforcement for the PSYOPS Saddam pulls on his own people. He tells them that we (USA) will be using these weapons on them (Iraqis). If he didn't give them gear they would think it to be BS or that Saddam doesn't care about them. By giving them this Saddam reinforces fear against us and his image as provider, for those that believe.
Damn Fox News... they're worse BSers than Ja Rule. :)

How about...............Saddam?
When he unleashes the WMD that he supposedly doesn't have and the wind blows it all over Bagdad...........
He's killed more muslims than anyone from the west has, including his own people.
I heard the last civilian body count from this precision war was..... 1,
but nobody's perfect.
Alot of people here sure don't know where the blame belongs.

A lot of ppl dont know history not even their own the American history.
This is nothing new!
Again Saddam is an a$$ no doubt about that. He has killed millions and millions of ppl be it Muslims or any other cast religion whatsoever.
This does not justify the illigale war fought by the coalition forces. Not at all.
Get your facts right, your civilian bc stat is not just naive but more the belief of an ignorant.

I don't believe it was the U.S. government that reported that they found a chemical weapons plant. In fact, I believe they downplayed that. In fact your article suggests that the U.S. military were the ones who said it wasn't a chemical weapons plant.
U.S. does have suspicians that there are chemical WMD program in Iraq. So shouldn't suspicious places be investigated? This investigation came to the conclusion that it wasn't a chemical weapons plant. And that was made public.
What is wrong with that?
If they wanted to "fake" a chemical weapons plant I don't think the suspician of finding one would have been made public do you?
And if they didn't think Saddam had chemical weapons, why on earth would those soldiers be forced to wear and carry all that uncomfortable equipment?
Need to take the media announcements with a grain of salt. I would imagine the weapons inspectors had years of scientific education to be able to determine the difference between a chemical weapons factory or a regular chemical factory. How in the heck could some journalists of soldier tell the difference?

To make it look like there is a real threat, that's why the media constantly show the fact that the US carries anti-chemical suits and gas masks with them. I wouldn't be surprised that "at the right time", the military or CIA fabricates evidence of Saddam having chemical weapons. When the US found the 3000 chemical suits at the military hospital in Iraq the other day, right away they assumed that Saddam had intentions of using chemical weapons, and therefore the suits were for Iraqi soldiers. Could it be that Iraqi's were taking pre-cautions with those suits in case the US launches some kind of chemical gas at them? But no, it can only be one sided right?
