Carnation milk powder…you find it in the baking aisle…here is my families recipe for gulab jamun…make the sheera just like Proto said. For the jamuns: 1 1/2 cups carnation milk powder and 1 1/2 cups Bisquick! Sift the two together…slowly start adding a half pint of heavy whipping cream..mixing with your hands to form the dough…depending on the humidity that day you may or may not need the full carton. The dough should make a nice smooth ball when you form the jamuns…not too sticky and not too dry, with just a slight sheen too it.
This method makes the most amazingly soft and delicious gulab jamuns! If you’re in the US, try it!

Interesting.I might give it a try. This is the first recipe I came across which uses Bisquick.
A quick question....I have always only seen fat free Carnation powder. Will that work...?
Also can we use Splenda to make the sugar syrup instead of sugar? Will it work...?
I’ve never tried it with Aunt Jemima pancake mix, only Bisquick, as it already has the baking powder/shortening in the mix.
I don’t have an exact quantity for how many this makes, but to give you an idea, this amount is enough for two 13x9 Pyrex dishes (we have a big khandaan, so this amount works for us) if you want to cut the recipe in half, make sure the amounts of Bisquick and Carnation milk powder are equal!!! That is the key!! And don’t dump in all the whipping cream at once! Drizzle it in slowly and only use as much is needed to form the dough properly!
With frying, the key is to keep our oil temp even and consistent, and work on small batches so that you can keep them moving and browning properly.
yes nido works too but my mom thinks nido kay gulaab jaamun kaalay bantay hain :D I have a friend who makes them using 'everyday' tea whitener that we have here and they turn out yummy too but again, dark in colour like nido

I also make gulab jamuns using pancake mix. I use the Aunt Jemima or any pancake mix that does not require an egg, use the one that says add water only. A goood friend of mine makes thes all the time, and she finally shared it with me.. it took me quite a few tries to get it right through trial and lots of error.
black pepper chicken karahi for today. turned out sooo YUM !
recipe:
except that I added green dhaniya+lemon juice in the end after it was all cooked plus I also blended yogurt with 3 tbsp tomato paste for some khataas and gravy.
