A Thread of Appreciation

Too often we spend more time arguing that we fail to appreciate all the knowledge we get from posters at Gupshup. In the aftermath of London’s bomb blasts, I just want to take a moment to appreciate some of the posters here. All these people take time out of their, no doubt, busy lives to argue and debate and post articles of importance. We may not agree on many of the issues, but atleast this place gives us all an opportunity to interact and understand a question from all different directions. If your name is not here, I apologize in advance, as I am sure I will miss out quite a few regular posters. Here is a list, in no particular order.

Thap: While I don’t agree with everything he says and posts, he has unwavering consistency in his views, and gives me most ideas to chew on and think about. Manages to continuously pull out news articles to support his views and attempts to provide the same line of thinking in every thread he responds.

Pakistani Abroad: The master of non-mainstream theories [ok, so I am avoiding the ‘C’ word :-)] and can find an alternative plot in any news story. Stays firm in his convictions in every argument.

Ohioguy: Attempts to protray the usual US mindset with admirable consistency. Tries to go out of his way to appear neutral, but can lose his cool here and there. You can generally bet on him to make an entrance in every worthwhile thread.

myvoice: The more time he spends on GS, the mellower he gets. Does not post as regularly as before, but manages to display an amazing legal mind to nit pick on the smallest of inconsistency in an argument. Good sense of humor (although can get pretty morbid) and unflinching in his right-wing ideas.

Lajawab: I manage to find faults with almost all his theories, but the guy deserves a salute just for remaining firm day after day in his views despite general outpouring of scorn for his posts. A part of me hopes he will grow up and change his views to get more logical, but a part of me still admires him for his persistence.

Anwaar Qureshi: Despite his continues streak of annoying sarcasm, the dude does try to stick his neck in almost all serious discussions to present his view point. Generally tends to agree to a friend here or there, but sometimes can make an incisive point. Very well read and generally can make a good solid point if he wants to. The condescending attitude ticks off a lot of people. Still a good solid contributor.

Pinstripe Danda: What can I say about him? This guy is remarkable in many different ways. He has been booted out of here a number of times, he has always returned and continued his *jihad *on religious extremism. Can be quite obnoxious in his views, and generally gets very ticked off if someone criticizes New York, America or India, but his mere presence can invoke a fairly interesting (albeit heated) exchange.

Kaleem: All his Texan tendencies aside, the guy is pure gem in terms of his unwavering support for muslim causes and his unbridled hatred for liberals. The present conflict can make even regular folks confused, so Kaleem does tend to switch back and forth a bit but you can bet on him to be unashamed of his views.

Abdullah k: One of my earliest favorites. Over time has mellowed down a bit, but his support for Islamic causes remains firm. Like Kaleem, can be a bit confusing to follow his line of thinking all the way, but is a reliable contributor.

ahmadjee: His custom title should be “Voice of Reason”. He is perhaps the coolest poster I have seen. Posts some really thought provoking ideas and generally tends to stay clear of hardline views. You can disagree with his conclusions, but generally his line of thinking is easy to follow.

mAd_ScIeNtIsT: Very similar to ahmadjee in that he can present a fairly convincing argument with better-than-average knowledge of history (or Google skills), he has no fear of posting a contrarian theory if thats what he believes in. Generally makes a lot of sense as he tends to research an issue and think it through before jumping in a discussion.

More later.

Thank you all.

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

Thank you Faisal Bhai, I like you too ... sometimes.

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

I would like to declare my absolute admiration for Zakk...truly Gods gift to gupshup and Pakistan Affairs in particular..I salute you mon ami :Salute:

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

I pull most the news articles out my ****. But thanks man.

Some of the stuff you write hits home to me i.e. your description of Islam in correcting a guppy that it does not translate to peace..... but submission just an example, now if I had said that stu would have lynched my arse. You are in a position to strike a balance of views, good luck to you coz I couldn't.

Also want to big up some people I have a lot of admiration for too on this site for their diligence in the past in putting some spine to the discussion in WA;

First goes out to my boy Malik73 he is no more but attracted me to WA, his posts there along with Achtung and few others made me aware that GS was worth the effort.

Next to people like sadi bobi and shahreen who kept me in the place after I lost the flavour for WA, then people like myvoice, semi, utd and OG that got me back in whether they like it or not.

I did one of these threads a while back I'll go and read to make sure I'm consistent...probably not :D

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

sorry I’m taking over the thread but can I put this in here it’s from my thread from before:

Some characters and funny with it, people like Sadi Sobi, Madhanee, Lastnightness, shahreen, matsui, and even UTD, Ohioguy and myvoice when they can separate fun from their day jobs in WA.

Some great passionate writers with burgeoning and established talent like Sarah Splendour, Shahreen, Lajawab and hiccup.

Some great debaters and like Malik73, Achtung, Nadia and Myvoice

The withering wit of the likes of PakstaniAbroad, Femme Fatale, queer and funguy

The sagely stalwarts Like Fraudia, Faisal and Ehsan

The comedic satirists, Like Xtreme, Zaalim and gamma on a good day.

The relaxed cool of Abdullah, Rooster blues (Allah bless his soul) and hayaa.

The enjoyable tales real or otherwise of Cat woman, Munni smile and Roman

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

I love everyone on Gupshup. I swear when I marry my rich aristocrat husband, i'm gonna donate nuff money to Azkar and co.

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

Time to setup Make a Donation Button.

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

I was gonna give you the title of 'Voice of Reason', but you already gifted it to AJ...

Thank you for the kind words...

P.S. You are supposed to find fault with theories, no? :)

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

Faisal, if you want to appreciate the Gupshup posters go ahead, but don't link it to the London bombings because no one here has a ****ing clue. So basically I would say stick your appreciation thread up your Gupshup arse.

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

extreme get over with your whining already..muslims in other countries may not have felt the impact at the same level as the ones living in britain, however, this time I personally feel that the stakes for the muslims have become much higher to protect their interests even if they don’t associate with religion or politics..

Boarding the local rail under tight security under prying eyes of cops on the eve of bombing made me very uncomfortable, and I am talking about vancouver. How would things be like for muslims in the West over the next few years, and whether Muslims will become the “niggers” of the 21st century; well it’s definitely possible and things are snow-bowling in that direction, and if we don’t take charge of the situation as a whole , and protect our interests, I am afraid things may become worse before getting any better..

thanks faisal..

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

Thanks.. that was very unexpected of you to atleast give me some credit.. I would not try to disagree with what you said things with negative connotations for criticism is often tend to be negative. As for agreeing with friends, rest assure that I do not make friends with people who have screwed up ideas regarding religion; hence, the agreement. Very well said…

and I love the way Xtreme replied you back… uss kee saheeh batti jalaaYee hai.. good job :biggthumb

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

See this is why I love Gupshup. By including PinkstripeDanda in the list of people we appreciate, we have once and for all demonstrated that we're in no way homophobic.

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

I am surprise you have missed out PCG ?? She has written much more and definetly more construtive than any other replies. She deserve a big hand in this :k: You go girl and keep up the good work !! :k:

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

Faisal, I like it how you have written your appreciation for others. In some way it seems really unique and nice. It’s really nice to see someone appreciating which we don’t do a lot =)

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

:rotfl: i love this guy…

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

thanks Jal Pari

Re: A Thread of Appreciation

Consistency in religious arguments may be understandable but blindly following politics is rather amusing. I respect all these political figures of GS but since they are so predictable that Faisal can summarize them in one post...it's something to ponder for them as well.

It's ok to criticize US foreign policy and it's equally OK to blame the bombers for killing the civilians. hello? :-)
Not to spoil the party..it's nice to have a feel good thread once in a while. People who were not mentioned, they can use their hands.
