Too often we spend more time arguing that we fail to appreciate all the knowledge we get from posters at Gupshup. In the aftermath of London’s bomb blasts, I just want to take a moment to appreciate some of the posters here. All these people take time out of their, no doubt, busy lives to argue and debate and post articles of importance. We may not agree on many of the issues, but atleast this place gives us all an opportunity to interact and understand a question from all different directions. If your name is not here, I apologize in advance, as I am sure I will miss out quite a few regular posters. Here is a list, in no particular order.
Thap: While I don’t agree with everything he says and posts, he has unwavering consistency in his views, and gives me most ideas to chew on and think about. Manages to continuously pull out news articles to support his views and attempts to provide the same line of thinking in every thread he responds.
Pakistani Abroad: The master of non-mainstream theories [ok, so I am avoiding the ‘C’ word :-)] and can find an alternative plot in any news story. Stays firm in his convictions in every argument.
Ohioguy: Attempts to protray the usual US mindset with admirable consistency. Tries to go out of his way to appear neutral, but can lose his cool here and there. You can generally bet on him to make an entrance in every worthwhile thread.
myvoice: The more time he spends on GS, the mellower he gets. Does not post as regularly as before, but manages to display an amazing legal mind to nit pick on the smallest of inconsistency in an argument. Good sense of humor (although can get pretty morbid) and unflinching in his right-wing ideas.
Lajawab: I manage to find faults with almost all his theories, but the guy deserves a salute just for remaining firm day after day in his views despite general outpouring of scorn for his posts. A part of me hopes he will grow up and change his views to get more logical, but a part of me still admires him for his persistence.
Anwaar Qureshi: Despite his continues streak of annoying sarcasm, the dude does try to stick his neck in almost all serious discussions to present his view point. Generally tends to agree to a friend here or there, but sometimes can make an incisive point. Very well read and generally can make a good solid point if he wants to. The condescending attitude ticks off a lot of people. Still a good solid contributor.
Pinstripe Danda: What can I say about him? This guy is remarkable in many different ways. He has been booted out of here a number of times, he has always returned and continued his *jihad *on religious extremism. Can be quite obnoxious in his views, and generally gets very ticked off if someone criticizes New York, America or India, but his mere presence can invoke a fairly interesting (albeit heated) exchange.
Kaleem: All his Texan tendencies aside, the guy is pure gem in terms of his unwavering support for muslim causes and his unbridled hatred for liberals. The present conflict can make even regular folks confused, so Kaleem does tend to switch back and forth a bit but you can bet on him to be unashamed of his views.
Abdullah k: One of my earliest favorites. Over time has mellowed down a bit, but his support for Islamic causes remains firm. Like Kaleem, can be a bit confusing to follow his line of thinking all the way, but is a reliable contributor.
ahmadjee: His custom title should be “Voice of Reason”. He is perhaps the coolest poster I have seen. Posts some really thought provoking ideas and generally tends to stay clear of hardline views. You can disagree with his conclusions, but generally his line of thinking is easy to follow.
mAd_ScIeNtIsT: Very similar to ahmadjee in that he can present a fairly convincing argument with better-than-average knowledge of history (or Google skills), he has no fear of posting a contrarian theory if thats what he believes in. Generally makes a lot of sense as he tends to research an issue and think it through before jumping in a discussion.
More later.
Thank you all.
