A Stupid Question...

Re: A Stupid Question…

hey pagaldeewani, i wasnt being mean. i was just smiling. why does everyone misunderstand my “LOL”??? :bummer:

AvgAmericanGirl - i would try. thank you.

Re: A Stupid Question…

I finally changed it to Jpeg format and copies all the pictures on that floppy. Now when I brought it and tried to open in this PC, it says, “This floppy is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?” First I clicked “Yes” and it said, “formatting it, all the data on it would be lost.” I cancelled it cz ofcourse I dont wanna lose the data. And if I click “No”, it doesnt open the pictures at all.

I do not understand why it is asking me to format it now and not before I transferred those pictures on it from the other PC. This is ununderstandable. What am I supposed to do now? I was sooo happy that finnaly I would post the pictures today

Re: A Stupid Question...

^ hmmm ... maybe its giving that error cause you are using an old floppy disk and its been used over and over again and now its unable to read from it. You might have a chance recovering those files if you try to open them in a different computer. if it works, then copy all the files to that computer, double check you have successfully copied them, format the floppy disk and copy the files back to the floppy again. You have 70-80% chances that the floppy will work ... but not for long so don't take it as a reliable source to transfer data.

Re: A Stupid Question…

^ mr. nos  as i mentioned before these floppies (about 6) are some brandnew floppies which i never used in my life before. these were just kept unused in my old bag and i found them few days ago by chance. so no these are not over used and the main point was to pick those pictures from that pc and bring them to this one which has not happened today. it’s unlikely i would have a chance to do that again in the next two days. so my time today i spent on it has been wasted

thanks for your response though :teary1:

Re: A Stupid Question…

Chill out dude … your short comings need not result into an emergency for us … we are just trying to help you out here … this ain’t a paid service so you’ll have to bear with us if you please … theek hai? … Tou phir thanday dimagh say baat suno …

You said you never used those floppies in your life … which explains it … floppy disks must be formatted before use if you haven’t used them in “ages”…

Do you still have the images on your old system? Don’t tell me you deleted them :hoonh:

Re: A Stupid Question...

NOS, she just said that she "copied" the pics to the floppy from one PC and then she was transferring the files from the floppies to the 2nd PC.
TNWB, I hope you just copied the files and didn't move them to the floppy. Did you try zipping them up and then copy them over. That might be a little safer as winzip does a check on the file while compressing and decompressing files. Let us know how it goes.

PS: I don't think you went for the thumbdrive option, did you?

Re: A Stupid Question...

^ yeh I know "he" said he copied them to the disk ... at time the write operations seems to work, only till you try to retrieve the data. Its happened to me quite a few times ... I copy the exam files onto the disk and during the exam it gives an error ...

Re: A Stupid Question...

OMG!! You are still using floppies? Shame on you!! And you are doing a masters in some computer stuff.
LOL!

Re: A Stupid Question…

that is a nice answer.

and a full one too

Re: A Stupid Question…

 … okay so I wasn’t very clear the first time around, I was referring to the days when I was working at the college.

Lets try this one more time:
As per the instructions of the ICDL (a computer course), all exam invigilators are instructed to save the questions onto a floppy disk, which is then distributed to the candidates. Because I am one of those invigilators, I am obliged to save questions on the disk.

P.S: Still doesn’t make sense, I’m too tired to elaborate :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: A Stupid Question…

thug - thanks for your response

TofiBaba - aah ooh what was the “thumbdrive” option again?? im sawwiieee… im such a blonde you know :silly:

TalkAboutIslam - the option is useless cz it is an old pc.

Re: A Stupid Question...

Floppies can be useful and dependable.

Never purchased a box of un-usable floppies.

Did know that floppies need formating before using .

Have experienced that phenom ..... even purchasing supposed pre-format-ed disks

Well..not floppies exactly.... The next generation diskettes...

Have purchased a stack of 25 C.D.'s (cheaply $15.) that are worthless.... they seemingly are working but when transfer of data is complete...they are completely blank..??? I guess I should know better than buying 25 C.D. 's from a discount store....

Re: A Stupid Question...

Yeah, they can be useful when u need a tinka to save urself from drowning. Otherwise u use the tinka to pick ur teeth and throw away.
