The core certifications for Business Analysts are CCBA and CBAP

even for getting CCBA which is The Certification of Competency in Business Analysis - You need following

Minimum 3750 hours of BA work experience aligned with the BABOK® Guide in the last seven years
Minimum 900 hours in two of the six knowledge areas or 500 hours in four of the six knowledge areas
Minimum 21 hours of Professional Development in the past four years
Minimum high school education or equivalent

CBAP is the next level …

so now it leads us to next question - his work experience in years ?

for Project Managers - people take PMP and Prince2 certifications - I have both and believe me it is just icing on the cake - of no use , if the cake is not there you know what I mean

Ask for his CV - to know what projects he has done so far …
