exactly lawful spouse ....
once, Islam tells you that a muslim woman CAN NOT marry a non-muslim man, then any such marriage is UN LAWFUL and a source of adultery... now the term adultery in Islamic vocabulary is known as ZINA BIL RAZA .. definition of which is, having sex without wedlock with consent of both... man does not have to be married... This is what Adultery's definition is in ISLAM....
