Do you do wudu or tayammum with a block of ice?
necessary assumptions:
1- u’re in the arctic
2- u’re running out of time for prayers and can’t access or melt ice-water.

I dont think you will find a scholar here...
and besides these hypothetical questions are stupid and serve no purpose.
what a dumb question to ask !
I don't think it helps to call others questions as stupid, especially when one is unwilling or incapable of providing an answer, regardless.
humhaipakistani.. I think you should consider the whole framework of why tayammum is permitted to get your answer. I believe the main reason for allowing tayyamum is when water is not readily available. So, in your question, if water is not available, its a clear case of performing tayammum. Tayammum is usually performed with clay/earth etc, but if they are not available then any clean surface will do. At the end of the day, its your niyyat, that matters. Obviously if you feel its a really big issue, then consider contacting a scholar of your choice for a more authoritative response, cz as Neely pointed out, its not likely you will find a real scholar on GUPSHUP.
i don think u can do tayammum with ice....
just like u can not do tayammum with mud (i.e. keecharr) cuz it is moist and not DRY....

Sorry to bring it up again, but I have been thinking about it just now. I am sure you are not saying that someone can just skip salah... plus we know that one needs to perform wadhoo/tayammum to offer salah.. and if water is not (easily available) then tayammum is permitted. Your argument is that ice is not dry so is not suitable for tayammum.. so whats the solution? I am assuming, in this case, there is a case to perform tayammum using any dry and clean object - maybe use some piece of cloth or wood or anything else that is available. Right?
^ As-Sayyid Sabiq's view from his work Fiqh as-Sunnah:
Fiqh 1.68: The Prayer of One Who Has no Means of Purifying Himself
Whoever cannot get water or soil may pray in whatever state he is in, and he will not have to repeat his prayer later. This is based on what Muslim related from 'Aishah. She had borrowed some jewelry from 'Asma and it broke (and fell). The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, sent some people to search for it. The prayer time came and they had to pray without ablution. When they came to the Prophet, they complained to him and the verses of tayammum were revealed. Usaid ibn Huzhair said, "May Allah give you good recompense. Allah never reveals an order with respect to you except that He removes by it some hardship and gives the Muslims some benefit." The companions prayed while in a state of impurity, but the Prophet did not admonish them nor did he order them to repeat their prayers. Says an-Nawawi, "That is the strongest statement of proof (on this question)."
next question; how do you pray in the arctic?

First I need proof that somebody is in the Arctic and has a block of ice next to him/her.
why? do you always ask for proof? well i intend to go one day...
i forgot to mention, there's plenty of ice over there, what are you going to with just a block?
Im pretty sure, if ur in da Arctic, u'll be well equipped with at least a gas heater...simple logic...melt a block, & perform wodhu....!
If ur looking for pure ice, u can always dig up to a feet or so, & use da portion untouched...!
Does every1 agree with me...?

agreed, the Muslims aren't in a state that they are able to go to the Arctic, but one can safely assume that there could be one Muslim in the years to come who could decide to visit the Arctic. The second part of your statement in a big contradiction in terms ;)
There are more serious questions, if you can't melt ice in arctic :(
Waisay if you still can melt ice still you won't be able to do wazu, because of cold. You think you can take of your shoes and socks in tha icy cold weather with out getting frostbite ?
So the situation is totally different. You will get an answer from some soldier who have been to Siachin. If you have seen the Play ' Alpha baravo Charlie' then you should know that you will be in similar situation.
Even then you wont be able to do wazu, but you can pray. As most of the soldiers in Siachin Pray regularly, and they must have answer to your question.
You can contact some one in Pak army and he can get the required info for you :)

Jung ki soorat main sub kuch jaiz hai, even praying if u dont have Wodhu is permitted. I fu remember watching ABC, u will also remember da scene, when he melts ice for drinking water, well, if u can do that, I surely think u can perform Wodhu....!
But if ur talking about frostbite, Im pretty sure, u can just leave da shoes on & perform wodhu on da rest of ur body. The wter would be warm, so Im sure it wouldnt hurt to perform Wodhu...dude code_)red, I dont know if u;ve been in icy weathers, but its not da ice itself that is cold, but da wind when it blows on this ice, which is a killer in itself...!
Malik bhai !
I certainly have experience of Icy cold weather where you will think 10 time before taking off you jacket or shoes. Ofcourse that was not like Siachin or Arctic but still subzero and snow all around you. And you feel as if your flesh on foot is frozen
Believe me ! whether the water is cold or warm, It hurt both way.
But if you have proper arrangements in your iglo, then it will be easier to do wazu once or twice a day.

You can keep a small/mediam size dry rock with you for tayamum

The same way you pray on moon :)
ok so Ive been to da chilliest of places but definitely not Siachen or Arctic, & Im pretty sure, it must hurt...but we can always stand on a rug or something similar which will keep da foot warm, while we perform wodhu...!
I was in murree 1nce & da month was August, not very cold, but quite chilly during da night…so anyway I have a wet dream @ 8am, & hot water is not available till 2 pm…
…so I took da risk & walked in da toilet & took a shower…trust me da water, which was icy cold, hit me from da top to bottom like rocks…but I loved it, & I did manage to take a bath properly…it was cooooooooooooool…![]()
