a new bowler (How's that) - Merged

today, Junaid Zia made his debut for Pakistan…he didnt get any wicket today, but looking at his bowling, it seems that he will go quite up in the ladder and may take on the bowling attack for pakistan in future…i just saw 4 of his overs…he seems to have descent variation of pace, nice swing, and bowls pretty much of good line and length…at times, he did get carried away and bowled a few wide of the offstump deliveries and was punished for that…he also needs to work on the extras…

but overall, he showed signs of a good fast bowler…what r ur comments…

In the two overs I saw, didn't see any evidence of line and length. Quite a nice action but needs to prove himself on the domestic circuit first I would say. There are bowlers with better records in first class cricket who deserve a chance as well.

he is a medium pacer with no decent line and length. He could not even trouble the lower order BD batsmen. With Shoaib and Sami coming back soon Zia will be history and quiet rightly so.

I thought Zia was brought in too late, to be given a proper chance.
I didn't see the match but to the looks of it, the tail batted well in the end.
Zia should have been brought in ahead of Razzaq.

Do you have anything personal against him.

Nope, I watched him today and didn't think he was any good at all. Furthermore, when Shoaib and Sami come back and Gul and Shabbir already establshed as well, where will Zia fit in?

Juniad Zia to me looked very ordinary to say the least. Generally new bowlers form Pakistan break in to the international scene due to their speed even though they lack control but Junaid was not super fast or even fast. But he was obviously nervous. Almost every time he got hit for a boundary he bowled a wide…
If he was the best, or one of the best of our Under 19 then …:smack:

They all look ordinary, I remember the first time I saw Shoaib, he looked to be an ordinary bowler.
Give the guy a chance to prove himself.

You might have thought he was ordinary but the opposing batsmen never thought that. Did you see Zia bowl today, if not how can you say, but coming back to my earlier argument whom would you drop out of Shoaib, Sami, Gul and Shabbir. They are already well ahead of him. If he is upto their standard in future than good and well. At the moment, he is not even a county standard bowler, based on his performance today. If he plays against SA they will be really delighted.

conidering the attack of pakistan i.e Shoaib+Sami+Shabbir+Umer Gul+Abdul Razaq.........i do'nt think there is much greenry in Junaid's cricketing future....there was nothing extra ordinary that makes this medium pacer a star of Pakistan....

^ Except may be his last name?

Yeah but thats all that matters right now :). Lt.Gen Tauqeer Zia is retiring soon so it was must for Junaid to get the cap… baad meen pata nahee cap miley ya na miley

Yes I didn't see him play but since they have already invloved him into international cricket, they should atleast give him a fair try.
Yeah against a stronger opposition, Zia shouldn't be included with the other star bowlers returning but this Bangladesh series has been ridiculed by Amir Sohail co by bringing unnceccesary young players to the team. Then the treatment should be the same.

He should be given another game to see if he's up to it or not. He did get a couple to swing and to be fair, Gul bowled badly today as well. I think any player should be given 2 or 3 matches before being judged unless they look complete toss like Yasir Ali, who bowled from 5 yds wide of the crease and had no variety whatsover.

Hows that?:)

Junaid Zia is son of Chairman PCB Gen.Tauqeer Zia....
read, how Amir Sohail justifies him

By Kashif Qamar
BBC Urdu Service

Pakistan's chief selector Aamir Sohail has hit back over allegations of nepotism after a surprise debut by a 19-year-old fast bowler.

Junaid Zia is the son of Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, president of the national cricket board. Many observers have already vigorously questioned the merits of the decision.

Sohail says the selectors often gamble on potential

"It doesn't matter for us whether someone is the son of a general or a poor one," Sohail told the BBC Urdu Service.

"For us, the criteria is his ability to play cricket."

The Pakistani media claims other players have performed much better in domestic cricket than Junaid.

In Tuesday's one-day international against Bangladesh in Multan, Zia was hit for 35 runs in five overs and failed to take a wicket.

Junaid was in the Pakistan Academy squad which visited South Africa recently.

He took only two wickets in the two one-day matches and seven wickets in two 4-day matches.

But the selectors preferred Junaid over another youngster Fahad Masud, who had claimed nine wickets in two one-day internationals and eight wickets in two 4-day matches.

In the domestic season, Junaid managed to get only 16 wickets in six matches.

Sohail said players were chosen on the basis of their performance plus selectors' assessments about their potential.

Wasim's star potential was spotted early in his career

"We try to do only our job. We also included Yasir Ali. He was from a very poor family and didn't have money to buy even shoes.

"You have to go with your sixth sense at times. Our policy has always been to bank on raw and exciting young players.

"It has paid dividends for Pakistan cricket."

Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq are both examples of players who were successfully rushed early into the international arena.

"At times a seasoned player at domestic level with talent may not have the raw temperament for international cricket.

"But at time a raw player with little experience may adjust nicely to the top level."

Clear-out

Sohail explained how the team now consists of many young players after the post-World Cup clear-out.

"Initially, any new player performs for himself in the beginning so that his place could be confirmed on a more permanent basis. Then he performs for the team.

"They haven't lost a match so far and that's a good thing. It will take some time for the team to settle down.

"It is also a good omen for Pakistan cricket that the young players are responding quickly."

I am not sure if the guy is good or not, but give hima bit of a break before slamming him, he was the captain of U 19.
Also he is only 19, you can't dump on him so hard, worst case he is not good and it will be painfully obvious if he plays a few matches.

Umar316, i am sorry to say, but u fail to make any sense on this topic. Uv never seen him play, yet you support the decision to have him in the team.

The person has hardly played any domestic cricket, is just a medium pacer, and according to people who have seen him play, he's nothing but an ordinary medium pacer.

On the other hand there is Mushtaq Ahmed who has taken the county circuit by storm, with his 99 wickets this season. The bowler seems to be at his very peak....and there is no mentioning of his name by the selectors...At a time when our national side seems to be struggling, at a time when our bowling looks weak and unpenentratable bowlers of the class of Mushtaq Ahmed are thrown to the sidelines...

this is just disgusting....

Only if he stops changing players for each series.
