Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
PPP ready to back Musharraf](http://www.dawn.com/2007/07/20/top9.htm)
ISLAMABAD, July 19: The talks between the government and the Pakistan People’s Party have made some headway, with the PPP reportedly assuring the ruling coalition that it will not create hurdles in the way of President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s attempts to get re-elected from the present assemblies, according to some highly-placed official sources.
“PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto has already conveyed this (to the ruling part),” said the sources on Thursday. They added that she had informed the government through back-channels that she was ready to support Musharraf with certain conditions.
To meet one such condition and as a result of consultations with the ruling party leadership, including Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and PML president Chaudhry Shujaat, President Musharraf has conveyed to his confidants that he will doff his army uniform by December after being elected as the president for the next term in October, disclosed the sources.
Sources said in case Musharraf seeks vote from the present assemblies, the PPP would abstain, following the example set by the MMA in the last presidential election.
They said the PPP leader had assured the government that it would vote for Musharraf if he sought a re-election from the next assemblies.
“She has also assured a top presidential aide that the PPP would neither resign from the assemblies before Musharraf’s re-election nor let the other opposition parties do so at this critical juncture,” confided a senior government functionary.
Well-placed sources said the tacit unwritten agreement had been reached on this one particular issue between former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and a president’s aide in Dubai.
So there it is folks…out in the open.
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
The worst possible combination. Though i hate this Fazlu fatty, if Musharraf has an iota of wisdom, he will like to keep him on board. Fazlu has considerable influence in NWFP.
Fraudia, this set up might be fantastic for ABCDs with their a$ses safely in residing in west, we the Pakis will like to see someone who can bring harmony. It can only be a legitimate democratic government. The military assault will not solve the problem, or even if it "eventually" does too many innocent lives will be lost. We have had enough of bombings.
exactly now that cow is homebound i feel nothing but hopelessness.
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
I did not say anythign to support just this setup. I am pretty anti benazir as you may have read in the past. all I said was atthis point I am willing for any set-up that can get rid of militant mullahs.
how would any legitimate democratic govt bring harmony if it fails to meet the demands of a vocal and militant minority? do tell.
Majority of Pakistanis do not share the vision that these rabid militant mullahs have. In a real democracy the rpresentatives of these people will not bow down to the demands of militant mullahs, so then what? you let them roam free or what? how do you deal with them then?
A legitimate democratic government will have the backing of people to deal with militants.
A legitimate democratic government will prevent young people be sucked up into terrorrism for they will feel that there vote has some meaning.
A legitimate democratic government will have the mandate of delivering the deals made, unlike Mr Shujaat with everyone who negotiated with was eventually killed. Now it has become a joke that, people curse others with words, "Allah Karey Shujaat tumharey saath muzakaraat karey"
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
Mush’s bargaining position is very weak now.
It could be that BB will strike to get rid of Mush altogether ![]()
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
So do you condemn the killing of 11 SSG by the Red Mosque Terrorists?
or of the victims of suicide blasts in pakistan, europe, israel, south east asia, etc?
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
hmm..this SC judgment opens up a whole lot of Pandora boxes for Mush. Practically speaking, I dont see BB staying out of the country for too long now. Same can be said about NS but with a little less certainty. Expect BB back in country any day now.

I agree but with a small correction..
it opens a pandora's box for the country
so BB would be the first to return and soon, i think nawaz next but in a while, and maybe altaf soon afterwards.
ab dekhiye hota hai kya..
and al this in the backdrop of the miltant mullahs going berserk..
interesting times I tell ya, interesting times
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
and maybe altaf soon afterwards.
That will never happen. If the coward hasn't come back the last few years when having 100% Army and govt support, he will not return when his enemies are in power
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
nawaz simply is not going to be in power, and if benazir and musharraf can make deals, so can benazir and altaf.

Big maybe.
However what is for sure is that he will never return to Pakistan
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
Benazir and Nawaz would be back anytime. But same can't be true for Altaf. But how many of us were expectig Ishratul Ebad to return? So rule out nothing ;)

yeah well that is one example.
but realdeal si right, altaf has no real reason to come back, he can have all teh ayyashi of Uk and be safe there while running his party from overseas.
sheesh
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?

ab dekhiye hota hai kya..
U think Justice Chaudhary will be very sympathetic to this guy after May 12? I'd surprised if he doesn't take suo moto notice of the incident within a week of his return. Doors may have swung open for BB and NS, but Altaf will have to face up to CJP for his kartoots.
Edit: In fact BB just mentioned in an interview with Dawn News that she will be back in the country before December. So there you go. Within hours.
Re: A Musharraf-Benazir future?
CJ will go back to doing his thang, you know verdicts and nepotism. This is politics, PPP will make the alliance with Mushrraf and MQM.
