‘‘A modest silence is a woman’s crown’’ by Sophocles (496-406 BC)
I was wondering if this is still true. Boldness and confidence is a virtue of one’s strong personality, but does it effect our ethics ??
I am confused. Please enlighten me.

Re: A modest silence is a woman’s crown
a very interesting question, namaan.
what made you inquire about it, if i may ask?
a strong personality of a woman does not correlate with a domineering and unloving feminine being, does it?
in case of a strong personality, which improves ownself by embracing all aspects of own being, gives utmost trust to others, the error made is that of perceptions.
and narrow mind perceptions based on selfish and doubt full apprehensions make a person lose respect and trust.
the quotation from Sophocles, indicates that silence is considered an essential glorified aspect of a woman's personhood.
silence by no means mean a passive self of a given woman.
what are your thoughts on the query you presented?

It can also be seen as the woman not being someone at the center of attention... the lady who is modest... doesn't attract any attention whether good or bad..

I was confused about the fact that our parents embed in our brain that girls shouldn't speak up. Modern society teaches them to be out spoken about every thing. Than where is the balance?? Who defines it and who judge it? who is right and who is wrong ?? or it has to do some thing with self-actualization, which defines it self ??

Re: A modest silence is a woman’s crown
I think it means knowing when to speak and when to keep quiet. By no means indicating passive woman. Someties people say something you know is not right, but the best means of handling may be simply to keep quiet and probl bring it up if necessary at a later time when the mind is calm. As a wife and as a mother it is a really important quality. Be clever about how to handle issues.
Re: A modest silence is a woman’s crown
excellent answer, aly sam. i agree.
grace and strength in a woman is in her ability to speak her mind, when it is the right time.
unfortunately, the listeners are not always listening.
to be wiser, knowing & speaking the right words is necessary.

Re: A modest silence is a woman’s crown
^^ But don't u guys think that media and our friends tells us some thing different. Speaking u'r mind is very much IN now a days. I am not saying that we should be quite against atrocity, but freedom of speech should have some boundaries.
For me modest silence is not only for woman but also for men. But as women have to deal with family life more, so its more applicable to them. With time i have noticed that people are getting less impatient. We get hurt very easily and also get happy very easily. I noticed that a modest silence can save a lot of families. May be we hve to go to our basic values to get a piece of mind.

Good food for thought.
I think the key is to know when to be bold and when to wear the "crown of silence"
