Its not the achievement they condemned, or is it? Next time you should try harder.

We love and support this little pretty girl Sania…

Should Sania play in salwar kameez?
The dress code of 18-year-old Hyderabadi girl has stirred a hornet’s nest after a Muslim cleric went public saying it violated the tenets of Islam.
According to him Islam does not permit a woman to wear skirts, shorts and sleeveless tops - a dress so commonly associated with tennis.
We, here at HindustanTimes.com are flooded with responses from our readers,
majority of them defending Sania and her dress code. “Sania, you are doing a good job over there, just ignore all these talks and keep going,” says Deepa, a surfer from Chennai.
Expressing shock, Nanduri from Werribee, Australia writes, “Sania is an Indian and is Muslim by birth, and not by her own choice. She represents India and not the Muslim group of such self-centred religious leaders. India should ban such leaders from making such rubbish statements.”

here - the same news from a gora news source. name and organization of the muslim scholar are mentioned.
lets hear your views on the fatwa now.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
the so called cleric cab go take a dive in whateever hell he is destined for.....poor Sania, hope she doesn't lose concentration ...
Sania, you have the support of all sane people of the world....don't mind these mindless useless mullas
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
well, it is wrong to wear revealing clothes in islam, whether u practice that or not is obviously upto u. but when she is out there with a muslim name, she is representing muslim women. n thats definately not how muslim women are suppose to dress. perhaps she shud publically announce that she is not a practicing muslim and hence does not care about the way she dress and does not represent muslims in any way, that should shut all the fatwa givers up.
mullani suroor.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
wrong. she is out there to play tennis, not to represent muslim women. just like all the women with christian names playing tennis in the ATP circuit arent out to represent christianity. sania mirza has laid no claims to representing muslim women, and there is no onus on her to publically proclaim her faith. her dress code is her personal decision. how would you like mullahs walking upto you and telling you daily that you need to wear a burqah to uni or publically announce that you are a non practicing muslim? get some perspective.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
she is wrong..she is wrong..she is wrong..she admits she is wrong..non muslims can't decide how a muslim woman should dress
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
when other Muslim women want to play or do similar activities they’d obviously look at her as ‘role-model’ (an apparently Muslim woman who has played a sports) and by this fatwa the scholar has told them to think twice before taking a step as what she has done is not approved by Islamic teachings.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
queer: she is a celebrity(sp?), she is infront of the public eye 24/7. and yes if some mullah comes after me daily telling me to wear burqah, i will admit to doing something wrong n yes i will announce publically that i am a non practicing muslim, as by doing something wrong.. i am not following the religion in the first place and so it wouldn't be a big deal to me n that would get them mullahs off my back permenantly.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
where in islam does it say a celebrity has to prove her belief more than any other so-called-muslim? if you are not someone who wears the hijab, what right do you have to judge her? (even if you are, what right do u have to intrude into her personal life and dictate what she should wear?) you and her are guilty of exactly the same thing as far as islamic dressing goes.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
I cannot believe what I am reading here! you guys are such chauvinists....how come it's ok for muslim men to wear shorts but not women? by subscribing to such stupid notions, you are proving to be no different from the rabid extremist fanatics who want to feed you a bs version of how to practice islam.
isn't there an iota of gender fairness in you people?
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
true, but the difference is atleast i am admitting to doing something wrong rather than lamely justifying it by twisting religious beliefs just to satisfy to my own concious.
whats wrong is wrong, whether i do it or anyone does it. thats there to it.
fj: as far as i know, men are not allowed to wear shorts, they are suppose to cover themselves n wear something that covers their legs till above their ankles.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
dude jammies, its all nakhrey and dikhawa. have you seen the pakistani womens national squash champion karla khan?
http://www.squashplayer.net/libreriaimagenes/swmo2004/cuartos/P7012203.jpg
and this is the islamic republic of pakistan, where the majority of these whiners are from.
suroor, did Sania ever say she is sticking to the islamic dress code? she has made no such claims, it is you lot who is out on a witch hunt with no provocation. where has she twisted religious beliefs to justify her dress? show me if you can, i dare you!
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
Look at you people! (I am sorry to generalize but I am quite upset) - instead of appreciating what this younster has achived as a PIONEER in her field in India, some morons are bringing up fallacious dress code and religion into this.
Are these mullas so insecure about their religion that they feel threatened by a tennis player wearing shorts because that's how the game is played today?
Comeon muslims! show your appreciation and encouragement to Sania by denouncing these atrocious mullahs and their insecure supporters. Be proud of her achievements....don't make a happy thing into a sorry spectacle!
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
i don't get it...she admits it herself that she is wrong...why is it so hard for you guys to digest that?
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
^ because it sounds very much like a protection racket. You're making a young girls who has accomplished so much in such young age feel sorry for being born a muslim. You are breaking her focus and enthusiasm. By not shutting up such idiot mullahs, you are giving a voice to lunacy and perpetuating a cancer that is ruining peace and harmony.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
she should feel sorry for wearing a skirt in public
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
arey baba, she is a celebrity now, every celebrity is analyzed, disected from their personal life to whatever skill they have. they did it with diana, with imran khan to brad pit and jennifer aniston, everyone is targeted, so why is it such a surprise if this is happening to her as well? as for twisting beliefs, i was refering to the previous posts where someone disected maymuna’s post to prove that she can wear mini skirt in islam. ni think she should say something or these ‘mullahs’ will keep coming after her, whether u all like it or not.
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
No she doesn't have to feel sorry at all. In fact she should feel proud of her great accomplishment which have made all her countrymen and sane muslims allover the world feel proud too! Well done Sania
Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star
so any muslim who thinks its wrong to wear a skirt in public is insane..man shut the hell up...hindus can't tell us how we should dress okkk
