‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

When did i say that people in this thread said something wrong???

Now your own paper has reported this fatwa and it is most probably issued by an Indian because i don’t see a Muslim Scholar issuing this from Afghanistan or Pakistan where Muslim Scholars will hardly know about tennis let alone Indian tennis star Sania Mirza wearing mini skirts.
Sania Mirza is in the headlines of almost all Indian papers and news channels and that’s where the fatwa is most likely to be issued.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

the game cud be played with trousers and full sleeves shirt i suppose.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

I think that’s against the rules. The rule sof international tennis dictate the dress code.

It’s like how in football, the Cameroonian team was once threatened with disqualification for wearing a one-piece sport suit instead of t-shirt & shorts.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

^ thats silly. if it is not hampering with the performance of the player, why should it matter?

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

I cleaned up this thread as much as I could. Please stick to the topic and refrain from insulting each other. I'd appreciate it if we could use the word Muslim Scholar rather than a mullah at least in this particular thread, especially because many of us seem to have gotten very emotional and offended.

Also, please refrain from introducing other political and off-topic issues in this thread. Feel free to open other (political and whatever else it is that you wish to discuss) threads for discussion in the appropriate forums.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

None of nobody's business what she wears. I think its the fact that she is a muslim "tennis player' is whats bothering people. even if she wore trousers i bet there would be someone saying it is against islam to be heaving your body up and down on camera in front of the whole world. Change the channel or lower your gaze if u are not comfortable. And if your sis/daughters will be corrupted by watching a girl on TV, then you need to issue fatwas against Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Dave Chappelle, Q Tip, Salman Khan, Sharukh Khan, (all the other khans) for acting on TV in ways not consistent with your religion (grinding against scantily clad women). cuz they're corrupting the men.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Reh i didnt know Dave Chapelle was Muslim...
But yeh Muslim men get a much easier time...Mullahas are forever concerned with womens dress...its haram we know...so what need is there for the fatwa...
But trust like shweetdreamz has raised...Muslim men have no issues...Amir Khan(the boxer) is a Muslim hero...i didnt hear them talk about him not covering his awra...or condemn him...
Or any male Muslim athletes infact...

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

dave chapelle's show ended :( becuz he went to hajj i think and he had a spiritual awakening.....

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

I'll miss his Lil Jon impressions...:D

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

More then a mullah, he is indian. Thats his flaw. Stupid indians.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

he went to South Africa and did a lot of drugs there. That was his spiritual awakening. he never went for hajj.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Assalamualakum,
It is haram for her to put herself before nonmahram men and outifts like this, so therefore what she is doing is haram.
*Allah says:
*

**
"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)

"Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; **that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..." (Qur'an 24:30-31)

Did Allah not say:
**He who obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allaah. [An-Nisaa 4:80]

**So therefore:

"Ayesha (r) reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr (r) came to the Messenger of Allah (S) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: **'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." (Abu Dawood)

**If Muslim women want to play sports together there is nothing wrong with that... but dressing like she is in front of others is haram. Plus this is not a manner for her to be seen infront of nonmahram.

And Allah knows best!

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

I gotta admit, she aint to bad lookin...

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Please if you feel that way or think that, keep it to yourself. Do you think that if the prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) saw an uncovered women, would go and tell everyone that he thought she was pretty? what do you think he would say to the sahaba if one of them said soemthing like that infront of him?

Insh’Allah we must all slow down and think about this kind of stuff before speaking

Allahu alam

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Is it so wrong to admire a rose for being beautiful???
But ok.. I will take you advice…

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

Bro...no-one is disputing that she is incorrectly dressed...its just she doesnt deserve condemnation when she doesnt claim to be a representative of Islam...

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

i dont see how this hadith means that u need to cover your hair. The ‘‘outer garment’’ around u can be a shawl, a sweater, a shirt, a kamiz.. ‘‘That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed…’’–WHat I gather is that covering themselves is only “better” so that women will not be bothered by pervertlal men. and also so that it makes other men aware of their identity…(take into consideration that time period). I dont see how it shows that not covering is Haraam.

“draw a veil over your bosoms” …so that it doesnt hang out in public…no mention of covering head again.
“guard modesty”-----very relative term.
“what must ORDINARILY appear”----relative term again.

Trusting a hadith by AYESHA-very Relative…some people dont treat her as a good source.

AGREED! so leave her alone.

Re: ‘Fatwa’ against Sania, woman tennis star

the fatwa was a good thing; it's unfortunate that in India it cannot be legally enforced, but hopefully in Pakistan mohtasibs will soon become a reality. The MMA's action in banning girls' marathons is commendable.
