Please do not belittle one of the greatest scholar of Islam, for he had every right, knowledge and position to make that statement.
I'm sure Dr. Zakir Naik had his reasoning too, why not ask him directly? I'm sure he will give you a clear answer.
How do people rely on fabricated events, which wont have any influence on them on the day of judgement (will god ask if you cursed yazid or not? NO)?
Atleast there is a logical approach, from the sunni perspective. Thats what I believe, because why wouldn't we have days to mourn and beat ourselves for ALL the messengers, and ALL the companions, and ALLLLLLLL the people in between Adam a.s. and Us, who are from the family of the Prophets pbut.
Makes no logical sense if you put it in that manner right?
I think I might have offended shias on this belief, but thats where I'm coming from, and I apologize.

Wow shocked as always, dont call urself sunni, coz u dont have sunnin belives, ...... one of the reason we r doing matam for last 1400 years is to make sure karbala stays alive and people like zakir naik and you cant call it a political war.....
Hazrat Asghar a.s who was 6 months when he was martyred in karbala, is there any justification for killing him in a political war ?
Y dont we morn prophets, we celebrate it when Hazrat Islmail a.s was saved by ALLAH and a sheep was sacrified, U celebrate it coz u r invited in Quran, for mourning u dont need an invitation, who ever cares just shows up at the door step when someone passes away.
When hazrat Ismail was saved ALLAH told Irbahim a.s that he has accepted his sacrify and he will turn that into a bigger one, and Hazrat ibrahim prayed that sacrify must come from hsi family, dont u think that bigger sacrify is karbala, After all Hussain a.s does come in Ibrahim's family....
U wud be questioned for being there when it was a clebration and not being there when there was a death in Ibrahim a.s family !!!!!!!!
