right. good observation! i agree
it is an issue with many people.
nostalgia is not a bad thing though, shikra, if u think of it, as long as it is not used to live in past glory.
it is true that efforts here are great.
but then immigrants choose to come to other countries, out of their own accord, with a hope of making out better…
something’s have to just give.
we cannot have it both ways.
& i feel that this is where people are a miss.
don’t feel bad over it. who knows, they really miss home.
at least it is their own.
young people can make the strife needed to live in an adapted country
but to expect elders to change all of a sudden for the material wealth, is just not a reasonable expectation and may be that is why some elders feel that they were better off back home, for they had friends who they could call up and in a native way rig teh life’s challenges in punjabi or pashto… for instance.
time does heal, and fill in emptiness, but it takes time, too.
next time, u hear them, politely tell them, count ur blessings and slow down to reflect how far u have come from when u started, they will understand, hopefully.
