Re: Happy New Year - Hijri Calendar

Aameen.

But how comes we are having a semi-religious topic, and there is no controversy.

So let me bring it in :D

we muslims dont congratulate each other on hijri new year. There are only two occasions given to us to be congratulated. Two Eids ..

that is it.

SO sorry X2 but take it back

:D

Re: Happy New Year - Hijri Calendar

Happy New Year indeed. May Allah bless us with his mercy and protect us from all evils.

Re: Happy New Year - Hijri Calendar

i think any opportunity which one can use as a starting point or a milestone to evaluate self and to better oneself is okay. so dont celebrate new year by the islamic calendar, just know that another year has started, as we reflect on new years on dec 31 many of us think about goals from a worldly perspective (many not all) health, weight, career, social life, etc.

I thought maybe this will serve as a gentle reminder to people to revisit all those goals they were thinking about ...have they started doing something concrete about them, and to also use this as an opportunity to have people think about their spiritual and religious life, did they make goals for that on dec 31, ifnot good time to see what they can change..improve..start...end.

Re: Happy New Year - Hijri Calendar

Alhamdollilah. Another new year has started.

Muslim new year is always a mix of happiness and sadness. Due to events leading up to Ashura coming just 10 days into Moharram, its generally considered inappropriate to be celebrating like the Gregorian new year (Jan 1st). As X2 said, this is a day to reflect on what we did last year, and how we want to shape up for the next year. Fresh year, fresh start. Insha Allah.

Next year, the Hijri new year and Gregorian new year will coincide. Wonderful. This happens about once every 36 years.
