**86pc Pakistanis like Musharraf: survey **

**A vast majority of Pakistanis, about 86 per cent, rates President Pervez Musharraf favourably, says a survey by a major American organization. The report by the Washington-based Pew Research Center also says that 60 per cent Pakistanis view President Musharraf “very favourably.” This is “by far the highest rating of any leader in the survey,” says poll director Andrew Kohut. “Pakistanis expressed highly favourable opinions of their president.” ** The Pew Research Center is a non-profit and non-governmental organization, which specializes in opinion surveys. Its reports are widely respected in Washington’s academic circles. The researchers surveyed public opinions in nine countries, asking a randomly selected group of people questions on various subjects, ranging from the war in Iraq to their opinion about their own leaders and about other major US allies in the war on terror. The survey says that most Europeans had no views about Gen Musharraf and a third or more in each of the nine countries except Pakistan gave no opinion. Views of President Musharraf were more positive than negative in Turkey, and were about evenly divided in Britain, the United States, Russia, and Jordan. Negative opinion of Gen Musharraf was strong in France, Germany and Morocco.

Majorities in every country surveyed except the United States had an unfavourable opinion of President Bush, with negative ratings ranging from 57 per cent in Britain to 85 per cent in both France and Germany. Outside the United States, the support for Mr Bush is the highest in Britain, 39 per cent. Six-in-ten have an unfavourable view of Mr Bush in Russia, and two-thirds - 67 per cent - feel this way in Turkey.

The popularity is going down, I thought it was 99%, according to our own measures

On a serious note, yes he has a positive image as a leader, and even though I doubt whethr the survey is accurate, I am pretty sure the educated 'tabqa' in Pakistan likes him.

Where was the poll held? India?

I myself am a big supporter of Mushreff he has really turned our country around :jhanda:
God Bless Pakistan

I've never seen an accurate reflection of people's mood in Pakistani opinion polls. The two i remember previously were prior to the 97 and 02 elections. In both cases the results were massively wrong. Case in point the '02 election when Mushy still had some of his initial shine the 1st, 3rd and 4th highest number of votes polled Nationally were won by openly Anti Musharraf parties.

If you held a poll right now on Pakistan Affairs you'd again get a result which is poorly reflective of reality in Pakistan.

For all the criticism of military dictatorships...probably justified....I'd hate to think what the future would hold if something should happen to Musharraf.

Even Bush would get 86% approval if he was president of pakistan. It means nothing.

Indeed.

Not to long ago President Musharraf said that 85% of Pakistani's were a moderate and tolerant people, and this is born out by the findings of this poll. You will find a section of people who disagree with some of his policies, while you will find others who will say he should be even firmer in cracking down on extremist elements. But the vast majority will always like him for maintaining a balance, and moving Pakistan down the road to development and progress.

Imdad what are you talking about? Was there any sympathy for Nawaz Sharif when he was kicked out? What about Ayub? People also got real tired of Zia real early too.

There was a lot of sympathy when nawaz was in power, same with ayub and zia. It was only after they were gone that people started talking about the evils of ganju and others.

Same will happen with musharraf.

There were mass protests in '69 which drove Ayub from power. Even though Bhutto was not well liked thanks to the FSF there were still widespread protests in all major cities of Pakistan. There was a reason Zia needed to imprison and lash so many people. Also I remember BBC in Oct 99 when Mush took power, there was this guy who said something like "Thank god for President Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif has gone to hell" Also, many newspapers especially Urdu ones were openly calling for the military to do its duty (expecially as in thier opinion Nawaz Sharif had betrayed the fighters at Kargil). On the other end of the spectrum Ayaz Amir was thundering about how the civilian government was in-effectual in keeping the army in check, saving face in the international arena, failing to meet the challenges post Nuke tests etc. and should thus step down. Today, open any newspaper (besides Jang) and there will be atleast one column criticizing the President. Protests against Mushi are also common.

And this survey still says that 86% support Musharraf. Where does this fit in?

^
Let's not confuse supporting a policy of Musharraf and supporting Musharraf in votes etc

Practically Musharraf has no constituency in Pakistan..the PML would dump him the second someone else came into power.

Well as far as i am concerned, he’s got my vote" Go Mr Persident!

Hes got my vote and thats the bottom line. Go mush go!!! Don't leave until the economy hits 6+ percent, forex $20B and exports $18B then we will let the thieves in again to bring the country back to its knees. Then we will find some other khaki to start the process all over again....

Inshallah.

President Musharraf speaks for the broad section of the Pakistani nation. Unlike any Pakistani leader for well over 30 years he emphasises and implements policies for ethnic and religious harmony. For that and many other reasons the vast majority of Pakistani people will always support him over any other leader, especially the bankrupt politicians.

this what i think of the survey :mocking:

Musharaff got 99.9% of the vote in that rigged election now he gets 86% in a popularity vote

How difficult is it to be a puppet nawaz the theif or benazir the looter would they have done anything different if Amerikkka said jump!

the answer is an obvious No they would have done everything the US asked them to do!

Has this survey been conducted in the GHQ and Kakul Academy?
