70pc want permanent ban on Facebook

Published: May 25, 2010

KARACHI - The 70 per cent people in Pakistan want permanent ban on Facebook, while another 14 percent said they support court’s order for banning the website till May 31, 2010.
In a public poll conducted by a technology blog ‘ProPakistani.pk’, the participants expressed their sheer anger on Facebook for displaying blasphemous drawings of Prophet Muhammad (SAWW).
The vote count is in thousands while the poll is still running. In the first three days of the poll, some 70 per cent of participants said they want Facebook to be banned permanently in Pakistan, while another 15 per cent supported Facebook’s ban till May 31 only.
The eight per cent participants were of the opinion that single URL ban was enough while the remaining seven per cent said they did not want ban on Facebook at all.
Lahore High Court has earlier ordered banning Facebook and YouTube till May 31 for showing inappropriate content on websites.
Commenting on poll results, Jabran Rafique, a student in London, while talking to The Nation said that thousands of people had complained Facebook to remove the blasphemous content through Facebook’s standard reporting procedure but no action was taken at all by the Facebook administration.
“But on the other hand they only took 20 minutes to shut down a page against Jewish on demand of some so-called Jewish cyber force.
Does it not a discrimination against only one race and religion? We must not use Facebook ever again,” he concluded.

Please read it again =] and dont edit your comments after reading it! :D

Re: 70pc want permanent ban on Facebook

So what ..Nation is enough is to conclude and report what type of survey conducted by ProPakistani blog which is basically IT and Telecom related blog and has nothing to do with stats and figures. If few hundred or few thousand visitors comment on it , so means Pak 170 million combined wisdom depicted in such psuedo blogs and thier conducted 'survey'. Even FBS cannot do that !

Oh , the same newspaper reported it whose Editor in Chief Arif Nizami , son
of Hameed Nizami and owner of this paper was kicked out by his own Radical Uncle Majeed Nizami of Nawa-i-Waqt for speaking against Talibans ad thier Khwarij Islam and now Arif Nizami writes in Jang Group. That same notorious Dr.Shireen Mazari was the main architect of ' Blackwater in Pakistan ' story and international union of journalists filed a case against her for going all aginst the journalism rules blaming senior US officals and US high commissioner in Islamabad and declaring Hussain Haqqani as Traitor who sold Pak integrity over Kerry Luger bill. She is a senior CEC member of Imran Khan Party and known for putting fake stories orienetd about Anti-Americanism.

So what you are saying that there are enough member in PTI to form CEC??? i hope you know that it takes three or more members to form CEC ( logically)

Re: 70pc want permanent ban on Facebook

those 70pc probably never heard or dont even know what facebook is.....

Remember, its an "online poll", so whoever is voting most likely know what FB is.

Re: 70pc want permanent ban on Facebook

I’m in 70% ppls :jhanda:

I dare you to question whether 6 million Jews were questionned in the Holocuast?

I dare you to find some good or postive points about Hitler?

We will see how logn freedom of speech lasts!

thats only in some european countries who passed anti-nazi laws in 1947

you can deny the holocaust to your hearts content in canada, australia, usa, or any other western countries

its just germany, austria, holland, belgium and a few others...where its a crime because they dont want nazi ideology rearing its ugly head again.....

Re: 70pc want permanent ban on Facebook

^Just would like to add a quick comment about the Holocaut and the sensitivity around it. I study in Australia and if you utter a word or two against the official version of the Holocaust then you are as good as a goner. During my university years they deported a chap back to UK because of his controversial thesis on the same subject.

Whats the holocaust got to do with Pakistan banning facebook.

Having said that there were two SS detachments made of Punjabi and Pathan Muslims. Both were responsible for nasty things in WW2 Yugoslavia and Huntgary, but mainly against Slavs and Gypsies, not Jews. And it is crime in Pakistan to make any reference to this sorry episode, another stupid Bhutto legacy. Its good see the PPP are still up to their old tricks of banning things.

The article said 70% OF pAKS, now Pak literacy rate is 17%. And computer access is even more restricted, may be 10%. So how can those who have never used a computer pass judgement on Facebook.

You can be one of the 100%! Dont go to facebook, youtube or google! Its ur choice. Why ban it? Btw, pakistan is #1 when it comes to searching porno sites on the web. Is nt that agaist the pious pak-saaf muslims? Lets ban the whole internet.
T h is…is my …las.. post..oh shyte..they banned my internet

Re: 70pc want permanent ban on Facebook

I believe a newer, more productive, and agreeable venue has been created in the name of millatfacebook (will not post link, please google it and find it). It will allow those who were in any way discontent with facebook's policies, to leave and join this new network designed for Muslims.

I really believe, instead of being all enraged all the time about western mindset and policies, muslims ought to be developing their own infrastructures so they're independent of western "networking" so to speak. It's a means to peaceful resolution that will lead to alternatives in almost every field.

Case in point, Pakistani avionics being developed, and with maturity in coming decades Pakistan maybe seen as a techno hub for avionics for its own fighter jets instead of relying on others. The same can be applied to social networking, mass media, etc. etc.

Where there's demand, there will always be those from within the community who can cater to it in its own flavor.

I for one, support the idea of millatfacebook, and truly believe it will allow folks to join an alternate and walk the walk, instead of just talking the talk.
