700 Muslim Clerics would be a great name for a death metal rock band. Who wants in on this project, this is so money.
… KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) – Hundreds of people protested in a northern Afghan city following reports that a man who faced a possible death penalty for converting to Christianity would be released, officials said.
About 700 Muslim clerics and others chanted “Death to Bush” and other anti-Western slogans in Mazar-e-Sharif on Monday, officials told The Associated Press.
Clerics have called for protests across Afghanistan against both the government and the West, which had pressured President Hamid Karzai’s administration to drop the case against Abdul Rahman.
On Sunday, a Western diplomat and Afghan officials close to Karzai told CNN that Rahman would be released soon.
Other sources in the Afghan judiciary said the case against Rahman had been thrown out on technical grounds and sent back to prosecutors to gather more evidence.
Those same sources said Rahman may not be released.
Karzai has been under growing international pressure to find a way to free Rahman without angering Muslim clerics who have called for him to be killed.
The Afghan Cabinet discussed the case Saturday, but results of that meeting were unknown. A government source familiar with his case said on Friday he would be released in the coming days.
On Sunday, The Associated Press quoted an official as saying an Afghan court had dismissed the case against Rahman because of a lack of evidence.
[edited] no wonder everyone is trying to save that ONE guy in Afghanistan and not paying attention to people dying in Iraq :k:, he is such an important person.
I agree. same goes for salman rushdie and tasleema nasreen.
Famous VJ ayesha alam married brian of junoon.she started wearing cross no one objected to her.now they are divorced but the the couple’s daughters are with the father so obviously they will be christians and there are other examples as well.
Everyone will be asked for their actions by Allah on the day of judgement.
But the question is if someone kills this man what will be reaction. The attacks on iraqis wont stop but in other parts of the world muslims will be attacked
The point here is do we as human beings have any right to sit here in this world and judge another person's iman.
Allah does see him turning towards different path.
Christians are literally feeding Afghanistan. In return they expect that Afghanis don't kill their benefactors or anyone allied to them.
First let those "Christians" announce that their purpose of "feeding those Muslims" is that they spare any Christians and converts to Christianity then we can talk all you want, ok?
its not about being "frigging mad", its about principles, but I guess some people/nations don't have some when the subject is a different nation/religion.
Considering most of the muslims in the Indian sub-continent are converts themselves, it doesn't make any sense for them to object to this guy converting
Very interestingly the thread again be hijacked by comparing one wrong with other.. Coming back to topic of the thread..
If we have 700 clerics protesting, the justification that very few people in muslims are hardliners and this isnt' true Islam worth relooking. May be majority of Muslims are not following Islam and its true principles, (thread thank GOD I am Muslim). Hence may be Islam may remain as a Muslim group but true religion is actually dying.......
^ killing of apostates is an debatable issue at the time of the Prophet(pbuh) it was done in the time of war so these "converts" were essentially spies, although all seem to agree that those who convert AND work against islam are to be killed. If any other nation or state executes a spy that is considered normal and neccesary practice.I am not aware of the details in this particular case
Its not about comparing one wrong with the other, those protesting are voicing what they believe in, is it wrong to? But people don't even want to hear what they don't like, they just all get 'h-rny' and riled up.
I am amused, since what you are saying that they believe in that a convert should be killed. .... and you are fine with that.....
Anyway this thread has been discussed and beaten to death, With me going out with knowledge that a good percentage of educated muslims who are on internet, also support directly or tacitly his killings.
Though there are some liberals still left, whose voices are getting drowned ..
^ Rahul, you are digressing just as others. Do you not support the "voice your opinion"? Or do you believe "if the opinion is against yours, you'd rather not hear at all"?
