Any person is free to choose which religion he wants. The Afghan mullahs and people and for that matter any Muslim against this person's conversion to Christianity is not a Muslim to begin with.

Even the Prophet (pbuh) never forced his own uncle to convert to Islam. He never called for the killing of any Meccan or for that matter anyone to accept Islam or be put to the sword.
