Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
nothing wrong with applying nailpolish, but having it done at salon is too soon
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
I hardly ever go to the salon to get my nails done. Heck I ain't taking my 6 and 9 year olds. Too young! But yes they do have their share of nail polishes, sparkly ones, bright ones, goofy ones in their room and they do wear it every once in a while.
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
mine has been brought up to know that she cannot wear it to school or on any regular events that we normally attend......she doesn't even want it for Eid.
but once in a while......probably twice a year (usually before we go on vacation) she is allowed to get her pedicure done with me and allowed to have the technician paint designs on her toes.
once we had her manicure done because I was in the salon waiting for a while and she needed a trim anyway so to help pass the time she was allowed to have it done.......funny thing is that she wanted to clean it off the very next day!
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
Personal choice yeah...
if people can afford it (or even if they cant), its upto them.. its like with anything. I know parents who buy their 6 yr olds their own personal laptops... to me, thats a bit crazy, but if thats what they think is right... who am i to say anything?
As for my own munchkin, she has always had a fascination with nail polish... but knows she can only have it for Eid, and even then she forgets about it. When she does put it on.... she wants to remove it pretty much straight away...

Unrelated to the topic but I totally agree!!! I see little CHILDREN (ages 5/6/7/8 etc.) with their own iphones, ipads etc. and it totally blows my mind!
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
^ I know... especially when I dont have one of my own..! lol
no but seriously... everyone has their own personal preference. If they think that providing everyeone in the house with a laptop is best.... then maybe it is for them?
We all have our own versions of parenting...
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
Maybe inappropriate isn't the right word but getting your nails done at the salon is not cheap. I think starting price would be from $25-$30, that's a little too much for a 7 year old ... don't you think? Getting them done once in a blue moon with your mommy just for fun is fine, but doing it regularly is not. I think kids should be kids, getting into all this high maintenance stuff should not be of their concern at least until they are in their teens.
I paint my nieces' nails sometimes.
I think painting their nails at home as a fun thing is perfectly fine and harmless but taking them to salons at such a young age is not good. They start to become too conscious of their image which at their age is not something they should worry about.
They're naturally beautiful and still so little. Why mess with that or give them the idea that they even should?
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
LOL…agreed! We have iphones but no ipad so yea…it’s just surprising to me that a CHILD needs a technology that I can do without. My husband has been whining to get a ipad since it came out but I’ve vetoed that each time he brings it up. Imagine our shock (and his whining!) when his 4 year old niece showed up with one at our wedding! ![]()
And I strongly agree with the personal preferance part. Everyone has their own values and lifestyle, and their own opinion of how a child should be raised. If it works for their family, then good for them. I wouldn’t want someone other than my husband trying to tell me how my child should be raised. Similarly, I wouldn’t impose my personal opinion on someone else.
Re: 7 year old with painted nails - age appropriate or not?
My 8 yo goes to get her nails done every two Eids or like this year she went before her Ameen ceremony. I am fine with it.
No make up though.
