7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

This is very old data -
1990-2003.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Read the references for the 2nd 2 tables. Clearly says "From UNHD Report 2005".

Very acceptable data, mate.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Yep, I checked it says.. All values from the 2005 United Nations Human Development Report

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Brother, on the top of 2nd table it says - "Data refer to the most recent year available during the period 1990-2003."
I think the references mean that the Report was made in 2005, with the data from 1990-2003.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

UNDR 05 is as acceptable data as we are going to get. Those entries not from 05 are acknowledged, but its few.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

I agree that whatever % of poverty is reduced on any side of fence is good, I only wanted to say if Pakistan is reducing poverty faster than India then India should learn from Pakistan and vice versa.

hahahahahahaaha:rotfl:

nice one…

man reading these posts is more funny than watching seinfeld

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Well actually, India's population is more like 1.02 bn and not 1.2 bn. The difference between .02 bn and .2 billion is the population of Pakistan.

I guess all South Asian nations are striving to alleviate poverty stricken people and like no one is better or worse than the other.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

I think you have difficulty to comprehend.I’ll make it easier for you.
It said the estimates and methodology had been endorsed by development partners, like the WB**, the DFID of the United Kingdom, the Asian Development Bank and UNDP’s expert Prof Nanak Kakwani.**

The World Bank Country Director for Pakistan John Wall told Dawn that his institution had no hesitation to endorse the numbers arrived at by the CRPRID to avoid confusion and it had adopted the government’s definition of poverty line.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Here let me cut and paste one line at a time for you so that you won’t have difficulty… Unfortunately I do not have pictures other wise it would have been a lot easier for you..

** World Bank validates Pakistan’s poverty estimates..

“The Government has maintained consistency with past measures using the
same poverty line and inflation indices as used for the 2000-01 estimates,” the Bank statement said.

“Several international agencies, including the World Bank have validated this result independently.” **

Now read this over and over and see where you get confused, and stop right away and ask for help…

Check. Mate.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Yes India has a lot to do, and it is doing so, going in the right direction. The growth prospects of India a far more positive than most other developing economies.
Its good that Pakistan has also done good. I am really happy for my pakistani brothers and sisters.

The article below shows that India (and also Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) is going in the positive direction.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/5116596.stm?ls
In 1996, India had a per capita income of $380, Pakistan $480, Bangladesh $260 and Sri Lanka $740.
Compare these with the figures in the latest WDI (which pertain to 2004).
India’s per capita income has risen to $620 and has overtaken Pakistan’s $600; and the relative gap with Sri Lanka, which now has a per capita income of $1010, has narrowed. Bangladesh which currently has a per capita income of $440 has grown reasonably well and so has lost out with India more marginally.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Population of India = 1100 million = 36% living in poverty = 396 million
Population of Pakistan = 166 million = 17% living in poverty = 28 million.

So if we must use the Indian method of counting i.e. not basing their comparisons on proportionate share (like the rest of the world), but raw numbers instead then:-

India’s poverty count is no less than 1317.7777777% ahead of Pakistan’s. Again - well done India huh? :k: :k: :k: :k: :k: :k: :k:

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

There are 2 ways to reduce % people below poverty line -
1. Make the standard of living of the people better.
2. Reduce the standard of calculating the figure.
If 17% is the new figure then I would say Pakistan is employing 2nd method.

For India the figure is 26%.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Those figures are from the WDI 2006, nothing to do with govt of Pakistan.

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Indians' seem to be lacking in basic reading skills as well.

Equally surprising is that 35% of India's population lives on less than $1 a day, which is comparable to Bangladesh's 36% and much worse than Pakistan's 17% and Sri Lanka's 6%. - World Development Indicators 2006 - World Bank

Lol

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

Why would Pakistan be competing with India economically… A ten year has nough insight to know the futility of competing economically, so no need to pat yourself on the back…

Re: 7.5 % annual growth in India = 70% of total GDP of Pakistan !!

unless the military & political animosity between I & P are resolved, economic comparisons are of little value (other than saying I is better than P and getting some Pakistanis angry).

And the m&p animosity will not be resolved until the cross border terrorism sponsorship is terminated

and cbt will not be terminated until military rules Pakistan

military rule in Pakistan will not be terminated until musharaf retires

When is his 62nd birthday?
