60 yrs on, Untouchability still alive and kickin in india

That is an advantage of living in a free society .... you can discuss issues that needs attention from the state. We get to read the article when it is printed .... freedom of press ..... (of course we sometimes remove the word "love" from an article :D) ... but more serious issues are freely debated and civil society makes sure that the government acts on these issues. Things do take time in India .... but the most imporatant thing is .... India is on the right track .... especially on caste discrimination.

You are free to ... live in the state of denial, :D

A free society where 200+ million Hindus can not enter their temples without a prior permission and proper police escort! Another example of pathetic indian logic!

On the positive site though, I do think india will become a free society in about 3000 years.

India is a free society and surely will remian one 3000 years later !!!! Wish i could reciprocate this feeling !!!!

I don't spend hours on your message board but sure, I am concerned about Pakistanis. What's wrong with that?

Now there, I answered your question; will you answer mine ? What suggestions do you have?

Don’t you see the answer right there in that quote of yours? It proves that the younger generation has no problem employing dalits but simply shows some deference to the sentiments of the older generation.

When the older generation passes on that family, do you think the problem continues?

That Marasi is how free societies and democracies solve great social problems - laws are necessary but they themselves cannot change the behavior of people overnight when it comes to old beliefs.

In dictatorships such as China they tried forcing change overnight and failed miserably. You should know this first hand in Pakistan. Overnight the terrorists were asked to lay down their arms, after decades of support; and you’re seeing what is going on yourself.

If you still are unconvinced, chew on this: Dr.Ambedkar who wrote the Indian Constitution is from a lower clas caste himself. Yet every Indian salutes the constitution

Marasi_dee Don't be an Idiot and a Bigot....

Indians are totally welcome to this site...to interact with Pakistans as are any other people of other nationality....

there is no policy on this site that you have to be Pakistani to join....

Get a life....

in fact i have found this site more entertaining and not one sided...

and i fully accept all your allegations against indians....i have written earlier that even smart hindu revolutionaries, athiests and communists cannot tresspass the cast barrier when they have to marry their children.

and you are escaping my simple question....what muslims have achieved in last 1400 years against untouchability...
have they successfully come over their traditional thinkings...

No but you may look like one, can you not read the post in its context? or am i asking to much from you?

Who said all pakistanis or muslims are bad?

Re: 60 yrs on, Untouchability still alive and kickin in india

^^ Very popular politicians in india.

popularity is relative... whom u consider popular might only be popular in your perception..

Re: 60 yrs on, Untouchability still alive and kickin in india

^^ One way to determine popular leaders is to see how many people follow them, no?

not how many people follow them.. it would be better to measure it in terms of % of the whole population..

Is the % that can take you to parliament or make you a chief minister, good enough? :)

yeah good enough as long as they form the majority of the cabinet.. or parliament..

Re: 60 yrs on, Untouchability still alive and kickin in india

marasi_dee : you're worried about what som Indian politician said. we're suffering from what your governments did.

Even UN tells lie bout India… shame..

Asia Times Online :: South Asia news, business and economy from India and Pakistan
UN’s caste declaration riles India

I do hope everyone reads this article which clearly spells out the status of casteism in India - here is the critical part:

" According to experts, the brouhaha has as much to do with politics as with economics and human rights. First,** it is not in favor of vested political interests to eliminate the caste system in India**** as Dalits form a lucrative vote bank.** In fact, in a country of a billion-plus population, it would be foolhardy to fritter away this attractive political constituency that dominates large swaths of India. "

Instead of clutching at straws you should focus on the key issues such as below and why India has opposed the move vehemently in UN..

PS: Ah.Ah.. no beat around the bush please… thankoo much much..
